It’s ironic this game happened after a week of relentless self-fluffing about how great Michigan is.
In a nutshell, this is the life of the Michigan fanbase. Go on a big run, get all talked up about how great we are, then lose in embarrassing fashion.
We cannot stand prosperity.
Lot's of passive phrasing there. I saw a lot of Michigan fans doing the shit talking and wondering if this was the best MBB ever.
In February.
Believing your own press clippings is how 62-39 happens. Hopefully Howard burns this tape into these kids brains so they don't think they are this good again until after the Tourney.
No need to over-react to this game. It was as bad of a performance as we are going to see out of this team. They will bounce back and will play much better on Thursday (can't play any worse).
Illinois is the #4 team in the country. It's not like we just got trucked by Nebraska. Further, this same Illinois team lost against MSU.
UM has two losses on the season in by-far the toughest conference. Baylor has one loss and just went into overtime for a win, albeit against a top 20 team. Gonzaga is undefeated. Every other team in the country has multiple losses.
This team went on a tear after getting blown out at Minnesota. It will probably happen again. This team is special. I can't wait for Thursday!
PS - My brother (who also posts here) will tell you I am a pretty pessimistic UM fan and get down on them pretty quickly. My point is I don't make these comments as a slappy.
I got down on Michigan during the '13-'14 run because they had a really rough finish to the season. Then the tourney started and they caught fire and went all of the way to the final game and damn near won it.
We still have a lot of basketball to be played. I think this team has earned the benefit of the doubt.
*’12-‘13...
On the contrary, I wouldn't burn this tape. I'd keep it in a locked case and use it as a cautionary tale:
This is what happens when you don't move. This is what happens when you don't pass. This is what happens when you don't box out. This is what happens when the guy with the ball tries to do it all by himself and the other four stand there and watch.
Most of all, this is what happens when you play a team that might be just as good as you are - only they want it more.
Ah yea, the “is this your homework Larry” game
I don't get it. I didn't read the game preview article. The only time that I did this year was when Minnesota drove a bulldozer over us. Now it happened when I didn't read it, so I don't know what is real anymore. What do I do? Do I read them now, because the luck turned? Or do I double down on not reading by not even looking at it for game times and channels? I'm so confused...
You hit the nail on the head... I was wondering if I was wearing the wrong hat? Maybe it was because I cut an inch off my beard on Monday. I watched on at a TV instead of a tablet. It could all be my fault.
Sports superstitions are weird...... but real...
tough game, great D from the Illini (how long can we call them that?)
remember what happened after we lost to MN? Look for the boys to come out on fire next game!
GO BLUE
They don't lose often. But, when they do lose, they don't fuck around.
No, don't burn the tape. Humiliating loss and upsetting. Can't explain except regroup and win the next game; against sparty.
One team came into the game with something to prove, focused, and high energy. The other team came in like, "what time is our practice today?" Illinois needed this win far more than Michigan. Motivation is a powerful drug at times.
