BTN messing up Spring Game tv broadcast for Men's Gymnastics?

Submitted by RED DAWN on

The Big Ten Network is showing the Michigan Spring Game from 6-7pm and 9:30-11:30pm next Friday.

Apparently, it is showing the Big Championship Men's Team Gymnastics live in between.

It is listed online at the above link and the same on my comcast tv schedule.

I sure hope this isn't the final schedule.  Does anyone know what is up with this? I guess it might be on btn2go?

ps: In NJ so can't attend game in person.

about that BTN schedule to clarify it for you, I do know this: Michigan now has a direct pipeline from NJ. Maybe that could get you directly to Ann Arbor for the Spring Game.

the Big Ten gymnastics championships, which M has dominated for a decade and more, should be pre-empted for Michigan's football practice.

Yeah......not a great year this year. Extremely young. We're 3-9 right now. But hey, I'll take growing pains after 3 of the last 7 National Championships and our Nissan Emery-winning Olympian graduating.

All seven B1G men's gymn. teams are in the top 10 nationally, as usual, being by far the strongest conference in men's gym.  So you figure at least 6 schools in the conference are more invested in the championship than what they'd consider a local spring practice.  Not saying it's even on the radar for majority of sports fans, but there's no way the B1G would bump it.

As for Michigan's team, it's a great study in coaching and development (a topic that's come up a lot during bball season).  They've lost their top seniors to graduation in the last two years, but even with a roster of more than 50% freshmen and the top all-arounder a sophomore, they're still in the top 10.  [Rankings are by scoring rather than wins & losses, and their regular season was stacked with meets against the other perennial powerhouses who haven't lost so much to graduation.]

We've got some extremely talented youngsters, many coming from the US junior national team, but their level of difficulty isn't going to be close to that of the top senior-filled teams.  And when they raise the difficulty, they raise the risk of crashing and burning.   All scores count, and no one can come off the bench if someone flies off the high bar.  But just last week they beat Penn State (also a traditional powerhouse) by a substantial margin in what was by far their highest scoring meet of the year.  Managed to watch it, and was amazed at the progress from the beginning of the season, even from the week before, in difficulty and execution, and consistency.  These kids are getting really good.

Of course, I'd also like to watch the spring game.

...and one of these events has been scheduled to be broadcast in that timeslot for over a year, and it wasn't the spring game.

If there is one thing that the BTN does consistently, it is broadcast live every single Big Ten championship (unless it's on another network, of course).  You would think this was something that Michigan would have looked into before scheduling the spring game for this time slot, assuming they cared one way or the other.  I suspect that they don't care, but I may be wrong.

That's annoying. I'm probably going to go if it's good weather, but if it was bad weather I would stay behind and watch on TV. I wonder if they'll have an online source that won't cut out?

As long as they have it at some point. I'm not in such a hurry to watch it like a real game sinve there really isn't a winner or loser.
