Braxton Miller speaks out on health, staying at OSU
Saw this interview a few minutes ago and thought some news that will actually affect a football game might be nice. I'm quoting Miller but Urban Meyer has some fluff as well.
Anyway, Miller on sticking with OSU despite competing against Barrett and Jones for a single spot:
I’m from Ohio, this is my home state. This is where I started and this is where I’m going to finish it.
Miller goes on to say he's healthy:
Strengthwise, I’m solid. I’m doing all types of exercises all the other (players on the team) are doing. I don’t have any pain, or aches, or anything like that. The only reason why they say I’m not 100 percent yet is a little bit (because of) the rotation in my right arm. But that’s going to come, by throwing the ball every day. That comes with repetition. Other than that, I’m healthy.
Does anyone have a strong opinion on which of Miller/Barrett/Jones winning their QB competition would be best for Michigan? It definitely looks like whoever wins the spot will be damn good, although a short leash might be something they have to deal with.
I think your name is appropriate.
Braxton will probably play WR/Wildcat QB in certain packages. Their offense will have so much speed. Bosa may be the best player in the conference and their.
Their "weaknesses" if you can even call them that are probably TE depth and outside WR (which can be reduced with the skill and speed they have at H back and slot).
$$$ on it, I'd predict Barrett wins the starting position. He's the best passer overall (though I think Jones can wing it further/possesses a stronger arm; much better passer than Miller)), has proven himself to be able to lead Urban's offense, has more starting experience than Jones, and is nearly as dangerous a runner as Miller.
IMO, just the toughest of the three to defend because he can beat you in so many ways.
National Championship run or not, NHTPS Jones hasn't convinced me that he's legit enough to start there.
Good luck in the draft dude. See how far that pride gets you there

He probably won't end up winning the starting QB job at OSU but to be honest, with his skillset he likely wouldn't have made it in the NFL either. If he stays at OSU and gets some slot WR experience, with his speed he can definitely be an impact player at the professional level.

I think Miller starts, tie goes to senior. Jones plays some this year, more than Barrett.
I still have nightmares about Miller's overthrows against us in '11. But Urban should give him a significant number of reps out of sheer loyalty - assuming the BM doesn't win the job outright.
His overthrow of Posey and THJ's save against Syracuse in the Final Four are two plays that make my stomach hurt watching even today.
Now if Urban can convince him to become another Percy Harvin type, and he stays healthy, well, that's another story.

I think he made a mistake by coming back at all. If he had just said his arm was shot and done a half-hearted rehab effort that would have left him no chance of getting the starting or backup job, he could have cashed in on his $1 million insurance policy. His injury was bad enough that without definitive proof to the contrary, I think the insurance company would have had to accept that the injury kept him from going pro and paid out. As it is now, I think the most likely outcome is a late round draft pick as an ATH, followed by a couple years of trying to make it against players who have been playing receiver and returning punts since they were in Pee Wee, ending in retirement.
In an interview with Al Borges that I just completely made up, the University of Michigan football team's offensive coordinator said:
"If it were my decision, I'd probably move Miller to wide receiver running back wide receiver drop-back QB...."
to go to a college that runs a pro system, ideally with a QB guru running there. But he stupid as evididenced by his going to osu
I think you have mgoblog confused for that blogdownsouth...the only quarterback competition I think most mgobloggers care about is the one in A2.
What goes on at OSU matters mate. Sure the most important quarterback competition is the one in Ann Arbor, but we still need to keep an eye at what's going on at Ohio. Ya know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.
miller was always the worst passer of the three (?) plus given that his arm is still not back to 100% I'd rather we play him.
as a side note, i think it's worth noting that for a superstar level player, b miller has always come across as low key, humble, and dare i say classy. i dont remember him doing anything (other than playing for osu and being really good) to make me dislike him. his injuries have been unfortunate and i hope that he is able to overcome them, have success in the league and avoid any lifelong issues. and of course lose to M in his last B1G game.
We really had Barrett bottled up quite a bit until the last minute drive they had.
Actually, every year versus Ohio State (at least in Columbus), Hoke's team has given up some sort of score right before halftime.
Those games hinge so much on momentum, the fact that we were tied going into halftime was a big time loss for us in my opinion.
Basically the work we did for much of that half was washed away.
Honestly, they clearly have the best three QBs in the conference on their roster.
Their schedule is more favorable than last year as well, so they can experiment with things and still be 11-0 coming into our game.
The strength of the run game helped an inexperienced guy like Jones. But no doubt, he could make plays when needed.
Miller - great runner, can be good and can struggle at times throwing
Barrett - pretty good runner, better and more accurate arm than Miller
Jones -big and strong, touch to tackle, probably the strongest arm, but least polished
All three present various challenges.
If you think back, there really was a handful of plays in each game 2012, 2013, and 2014 that our coaches were not good enough on and they were better. We really should have been 2-1 (wins in 2012 and 2013 at the very least imo).
I just figured he decided to stay at OSU when someone in the AD pointed out that he would have to return his "signing bonus" and other goodies if he voluntarily left OSU.
Yeah, I believe the coach was selling Miller a repeat and best chance to make the pros. Miller bought in and will get snaps in a variety of ways giving them more offensive options.
