Better Call Saul. Final Season episode 9 (warning: spoilers)
So. A much slower episode this week, but a very important one. Is Kim now done in the BCS timeline? Do we see her again?
The audience knew that Kim wasn't in Breaking Bad, so her exit was unavoidable. I always imagined it would be a more violent end for Kim, or Saul would go too far over the line. This reason for the split was not quite what I expected. I still think we will see her in the last 4 episodes.
What a great show. I don't want it to end.
The ringer podcast is calling this episode the best in the show’s history.
Really?!
Im not disagreeing, but that’s a bold claim.
Just watched it, it wasn't an episode of note.... Early episodes, or those with the Kettlemans, were ten times better than this one.
Strongly disagree. I that was the one of the best episodes of this show I can remember.
The previous episode was amazing. This one was a deep breath to try to get back on solid footing. Anyone have any idea the time difference between Kim leaving and the prostitute in his bed? 5 years? Its crazy what his home looks like and what his office looks like. You would think he would want the fanciest of offices.
Per the experts who get into the details, the BCS timeline is 4 years before the start of the BB timeline.
This episode broke my heart. Saul’s whole facade during breaking bad was to mask the pain he’s felt from Kim leaving him.
Walt does the whole Heisenberg thing to show his true colors. Jimmy does Saul to hide his. I wish i could write as well as these people god damnit lol.
the pacing is just so weird. Like, the climax of the story ended at ep 8. I could see 1-2 eps to wrap things up and flow into BB, but 5?
Like, this ep had nothing but about 15mins worth of story progression. Why are we wasting 5 eps on wrapping things up?
Because there is still some more things that need to be reconciled.
1. what really happened to Kim? Is she just gone for good?
2. show the full Jimmy-Saul transformation
3. What happens to Gene T?
4. Walt and Jesse are supposed to be involved, so does that play out?
I’d say 4 more episodes should cover that just fine.
If anyone has earned the benefit of the doubt, it’s Vince Gilligan. I have no doubt the ending will be worthy.
I think we see Kim in episodes 12 & 13. The reason, we see her standing at Gus's house, per Lalos changed plan ready to shoot Gus and his address is 1213. We saw her leaving the hotel room at the end of season 5 and the room was 609. The season/episode she breaks up with Jimmy. The Kettlemens also tell her dial 9 to get out. Numbers mean a lot in this show.
Somehow Gene sees her at the mall, they reunite and they take care of cab driver guy. Not sure how it will all play out. Saul had a different shirt on at the end of the episode than when we first saw him in BB. But the next episode is definitely in the BB time frame. Can't wait for next Monday. (Never said that before)
No way we’ve seen the last of Kim. Would be a rather abrupt and somewhat unceremonious exit for her.
Curious too, now that the timeline seems to have fast forwarded to the Breaking Bad universe or somewhere close to it, what the story will be in the final four episodes. Guessing the finale will involve Gene’s fate but what story is there now to tell?
That said, Vince Gilligan has earned the benefit of the doubt and then some. I’m sure we’re in for a fantastic ending.
This episode had to be much different coming down from last weeks gem. Lalo was the last villain in the BCS series, so going from his exit to some crazy next episode would have been bad for the series. Salamacas and Gus are taken care of in Breaking Bad, so the rest gas to just be the "Better Call Saul" rollercoaster and somehow the conclusion of Kim and Saul.
With no villain left these next few episodes are going to be very different methinks.
This was a good episode, and it follows a lot of what Vince did in pt 2 of Breaking Bad. The first episode had the Hank v Walt showdown in the garage. The next episode of “Rabid Dog” was a lot slower but significant.
I have to believe that there is an ‘Ozymandis’ episode still on the horizon
Ozymandious would have been Plan and Execution and Point and Shoot. This episode was more akin to Granite State. But BCS is a much different show than BB.
That being said, if this wasn’t the best episode of the show it was damn close. Give Odenkirk and Seehorn ALL of the awards for the last 20 minutes.
We'll see Kim again accepting her Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress : )
Gustavo Fring staring into the pool, the subsequent bar scene, and Jimmy's comb over were just terrific writing/ cinematography.
