Baumgardner has a new Michigan podcast

Submitted by Chuck Norris on

I absolutely loved The Wolverine Beat with him and Brendan Quinn, so this is exciting for me.

It's called "The Michigan Rant", and appears to be half Baumgardner and a guest or two talking about Michigan football/basketball/recruiting/whatever, and half Baumgardner answering mailbag questions.

Here's the announcement with the first podcast embedded:

Or, if you're still a "never give the Freep clicks" hardliner, here's the soundcloud link:

The first podcast has George Sipple, fellow Freep sportswriter as the guest.

The new title may be quite fitting. I like Nick's observations a lot. I found him and Quinn to spend too much time expasperated at twitter battles and random fan hawt takes. Less ranting and more keen observations is my hope.

EDIT: After listening, I was pleased to hear calm, professional and mostly keen observations. He was less concerned with slaying social media/email dragons than it seemed he and Quinn were. Good stuff.

It always cracked me up when Nick would pick questions to answer on the W  Beat (he had tons to choose from) and then he would rip the question as STUPID.  Nick "C'mon people.  Is that the best you can come up with" Maybe don't choose that question to answer???

Quinn was decent at basketball and he always ended with "And don't forget to tip your servers"

Is there a daily radio show that features michigan content on the internet? I live in Columbus, and listen to common man and t-bone (torg's replacement) and have found them to be entertaining, but OSU homers. If they were less biased or liked michigan I'd love the show. Steer me towards better content for my hour daily commute home, please. *sent from android app, forgive lack of punctuation and sentence structure.

I listen to the Rich Eisen show. It's a national show about all sports but he lets his Michigan homerdom(ness?) shine through regularly. Mainly I just listen to mgopodcast and the new harbaugh podcast and fill in any free time with Eisen, he has 3 hours a day 5 days a week so I just cherry pick episodes.

Personally, I prefer to get my Michigan content from people who DIDN'T go to MSU for undergrad, but that's just me.

I actually like getting a non-fan take from someone that gets paid to pay close attention to the team. That’s a rarity. Most Michigan coverage is either from fans (who are almost always either homers or overly negative,) or people that don’t pay close attention and/or cover the national scene and therefore don’t focus on Michigan so much.

I'm now up to a few Michigan podcasts and they all have their pros and cons. Wolverine Beat: I loved the snark between the two. Seems like great guys to hangout with but the show ended. Also it always seemed like Brendan wanted the show to be over so he could go home. MGoBlogs: love it, great takes, humor, but homers (which is cool, balances the other ones) 24/7's: covers recruiting which is nice. But intro music is awful, Shaw doesn't have a good feel/flow as a host. Just awkward while doing it. I feel like he's one step above the "boom goes the dynamite" guy. Harbaugh Podcast: pros: it actually sounds like Harbaugh having fun and wanting to talk unlike his press conferences. Con: ad reads are cringe worthy.

Is the audio quality any better than the Wolverine Beat? I stopped listening because I can't stand it when a podcast sounds like it was recorded inside a cave.
