Basketball banquet awards

I've been going the end of the season basketball banquets annually since the beginning of the Amaker era -- though well before then I did get taken to one as a kid in the 70s spending the evening launching all 4ish feet of myself up and down trying to get the attention of Phil Hubbard etc. for autographs (yes, I know, I'm getting old).  Tonight's event was typical of the Beilein era with all awards being picked by players featuring a mix of performance and fun awards.  Poole was named best dressed and best dancer, Baird was most likely to succeed and Castleton won "talks most, knows least."  Zavier won most valuable player and the hustle awards, Charles won the leadership and defensive awards, and Teske got most improved and best rebounder.

When Beilein spoke he mentioned that going to the tournament wasn't something to take for granted for most teams, much less our recent run.  It made me think of the diary posted currently on the site about the highlights of Mgoblog circa 2009, and how nervous we all were about the possibility of a getting a bid after so many disapointments.

I love the source for this news:

The news of Beilein's trip to Germany comes from an unlikely source, as 2019 three-star combo guard Nah'Shon Hyland tipped TMI off to the trip. When asked whether Beilein will be visiting him next week, Hyland told TMI that Beilein wasn't expected to be on the trip.

"No, Beilein will be in Germany I believe," Hyland told TMI when asked whether Beilein will be visiting him this coming week.
