4/5 * WR Nico Collins to visit UGA on Jan 29th.

Submitted by MichiganMan14 on
Did not see this covered in the recruiting thread earlier. That visit is about a week out from Signing Day. Georgia is in an arms race with Alabama right now and will be tough to hold off for Nico. A true 6ft5 red zone guy with ability to separate is hard to find. Michigan will put a press on for his signature the last week I'm sure with in home visits. Had a chance to spend some time with him on his official and he is a very nice and humble kid. Definitely a kid we want in our program. Hopefully we can fend off the Dawgs.

Or maybe you just need to chill and realize that the concern is that

1. It's an SEC school

2. It's an SEC school with crazy momentum right now

3. It's an SEC school that just took a guy who was longer rumored to be a heavy Michigan lean

4. It's late in the recruiting calendar...Signing Day is Feb 1.

5. Bagmen.

...there is no freak out, but people have seen how this CAN go and yes, there's concern - as there should be. It's not cool to be the "play it cool" guy when there is reason to be a little cautious or worried.

There's a middle ground between play it cool guy and freak out....I think most of us are there.

Come on.

Are you really going to judge and turn your nose down at people who following/like recruiting?

You're going to be that guy, huh?

It's not about worrying about a kid, it's worrying about the future of the football team that you root for and probably care about more than you should but that's why you're a fan/fanatic of the team.

Do you think anyone on this board gives a shit about Nico Collins' life decision if it doesn't impact Michigan Football?

No. Of course they don't.

If there is worry or concern it's 100% about Michigan football and not only Michigan getting talent, but Michigan's competitors NOT getting talent.

Stop it. I shouldn't have to explain this, you know damn well why people worry/care - but for whatever reason you're on a high horse at the moment. "There is never a need to worry about 18 year olds life decisions."

That's simply a by-product of caring about your favorite football team, but you knew that already. It's a by-product just as much as folks who don't like certain colors or cities or people they've never met in their lives...just because they love their favorite team.

You don't fucking get it, do you?

Everyone should be the "play it cool" guy because your life is twisted and warped if something like this makes you lose your cool. Your priorities are seriously out of wack, as are those of this community that accepts you. The amount of time and effort you put into this is disturbing, Mr. Yost. Feel bad about it.

I'm sure it would be nice to get him, but that position is already well stocked with talented young guys.

If I'm not mistaken, Sam or someone else had mentioned a few weeks ago that Nico was likely to visit Georgia. Even with the visit being close to signing day, I'm not sure this qualifies for freak out status just yet.

I think Nico's dad is from Detroit or an unabashed UM fan? Hopefully these ties keep strong. If it wasn't for that I'd be wary of him staying down south. Another thing that would give me pause is we have an already good and deep WR haul. There may be better paths to playing time elsewhere.

Makes me mad the NCAA isnt going through these recruiters with a fine tooth comb

I have a very very hard time belieiving Georgia is following the rules this year. Why would all these blue chips all of a sudden want to randomly go to a 7-5 team? I mean their class isnt just good its historic and growing fast. Somethings fishy there

UGa got Wilson when we thought he was for sure coming here. Nothing saying the same ending couldn't happen with Collins.

Hope Harbaugh puts the full-court press on Collins. Grabbing a top recruit out of Alabama would be a huge get.

I think I figured out who Jive Turkey #3 is.......none other than Kirby "Notso" Smart.

Here's a quote from Isaiah Wilson from Dawg Nation, “I think just evaluating everything that school had to offer me,” Wilson said. “The idea of playing early. The Top 20 Terry School of Business. The coaching staff is going to be there for the next three-to-five years. Three referring to Coach Pittman. Five referring to Coach Smart. At least five. Coaching security was big. When I camped with Coach Pittman (in the summer) I knew that I really liked the way he coached and I could see myself playing for him.”

Clearly the GA coaching staff is pointing to the phony Harbaugh to NFL rumors as a discriminator to pick Georgia over Michigan. I'm sure they will try the same pitch with Nico.

And I'm not saying it isn't, I wonder what these SEC schools do to get 4 and 5 star players? Maybe it's girls? Plural. At the same time. That would change my 18 year old mind pretty damn fast. /also my 38 year old mind

To be fair to Smart, he did take a mediocre football team and immediately turned them into a slightly worse, but still mediocre, team.  Results like those sell themselves, don't they?

Remember that Coach H and his staff will be visting these high priority kids and going all out to recruit them (within the rules of course).  So, Michigan will stay in the game to the end.

Hopefullly he is a silent to UM and is going to verbally tell Georgia he's coming so they get all hyped and then announce he's coming to UM. Reverse Isiah Wilson.

3 are 6'2" and 1 is 6'5"

adding a 5th is less attractive for Nico than coming to Michigan

we don't really need a backup plan - it doesn't look like we're going to hit 31 in the class unless we take people to just fill slots

Nico

Najee (but lose Samuels)

Filiaga (but lose Hebert)

Becton

Gay

Tufule

Solomon

that gets us to 31 - we won't get them all

maybe if we miss one we grab the CB currently committed to BC, but other than that not sure who else is on the board unless the 4/5* tackle Jackson is an option

Where is UGA coming from? Terrible first season, one more and Kirby on hot seat only 2 years in. Richt well known for running a clean program but one has to wonder if Kirby has now gone the Ole Miss route.

Georgia is really starting to get on my nerves.

They are doing that Clemson thing where they are not really involved with a recruit, but then they host an 11th hour visit . . . some stuff happens . . . and the next thing you know they are the leader.

I don't get all the Georgia love. They haven't won anything recently and they don't have a big time coach like Jim Harbaugh. I mean they're not terrible but it's surprising to see them have so much success in recruiting.
