2020 in-state ATH Maliq Carr to Purdue
I didn't see this posted on the board from Friday, but Oak Park wide receiver/tight end Maliq Carr committed to Purdue. This had been somewhat expected, but I know some were holding out hope that he would still end up at Michigan. The Wolverines were the favorites at one time and still had 14% of the crystal ball picks, but Purdue had the other 86%. He had long been targeting an October 11 commitment date.
Carr is a 4-star, the #5 tight end, and #193 player in the 2020 class. He wants to play WR in college, though at 6'4" and 230 lbs., that may not be his future.

He would want to play TE in our offense. They are the only ones who get looked at

I don't know...if by star gazing means going after nationally elite players over state elite players I'm ok with that..

He plays like a TE, but bullheadedly wants to stay at WR. He insists he wants to play basketball, even though his is not a good enough player to even be rated at 247 for basketball. And he's careless with how he carries the football. Other than that.....

To my knowledge, this was the issue with Rashan as well. Insisted he play DE, but that kid would have been an absolute freak at 3T. Also, to Cliff Keens point, I don’t think it reflects well on us to make empty promises about allowing him to play WR and then forcing the switch after the 1st year. That’s the kind of stuff that gets kids transferring out and gets recruits talking. It reflects poorly on us as a school/staff not to maintain as much transparency as possible

If he does not want to play the correct position, good luck and move on. All of the whining is completely unnecessary.

I would think we should recruit Ohio a little more, but recruiting hasn’t really been the issue, per 247 composite we have the 10th most talented roster in the country. The issue has been attrition based. I will admit that the DT recruiting hasn’t been nearly as good as I expected, but nearly every other position group has been fine.

Why would a top player from Ohio want to come here when you can go to a top 5 program that puts everybody in the NFL.

Clearly not a WR, wonder if Purdue offered him a shot there that we didn’t.
