It's actually amazing that he was able to avoid the ball. It bounced, but it was going right toward him. Shouldn't have been too hard to keep a foot on the bag and keep his body behind it. Might not catch it clean, but you keep the runner at third.

I'm staying with Kauffmann as long as he keeps the bases clean. I like the way he battles out there.
That said, I pull Kauffmann right now with 2 down. He's gotten away with a couple pitches up in the zone.

Off-topic, but I like baseball so much better when it's high-stakes, balls-to-the-wall elimination style like this. It would never happen, but I wonder if MLB would be served by dramatically reducing the number of games so every game is more important, more strategic, instead of basically a war of attrition keeping pitchers and hitters rested and healthy. I don't think baseball is well served by back end of the rotation guys getting nearly as many starts as the Verlanders and Kershaws of the world.
