#1 2013 RB in GA - "Michigan is my 1st choice"

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Fred Jackson His high school coach compares him to Trent Richardson of Alabama.

“If it was my choice, I’d sign with Michigan,” Thomas told the AJC. “I’ve always been a Michigan fan. My dad is a Michigan fan. I’ve got a lot of family up there.”

And more...

Thomas, who rushed for nearly 2,000 yards last year as a sophomore, has early scholarship offers from Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Troy, along with serious interest from many SEC and ACC schools, including Alabama, LSU and Georgia Tech.

Edit: He goes by the name of "Kamani Thomas." If that's even his real name.

I like getting kids who love Michigan - they "get it" as the current meme goes.  Consensus measurables about 5'9 - 10 and 180 as a sophomore so he could grow into a good sized back.  I have no idea what the competition in his film is like but if they are any good then this is a very good sophomore - breaks tackles, keeps churning and most impressive is how he can accelerate from a full stop to get away from pursuers who have the jump on him.  Actually reminds me a bit of our current #28.

Not too much outright speed, but elusive and quick at finding holes.  Great at stutter steps and subtle moves to break through holes.  He's also good at following his blockers.  Very tough...MANBALL...does not shy away from contact.  Seems well coached. Looks like someone right up Hoke and Borges' alley.

He doesn't look blazing fast or have great power, but he has good balance, can cut well, and has good enough speed.  I would say he is a mid to low 4-star.  Looks much better out of the I than out of the near/far look that they show early in his highlights.  Looks like he would be a solid get either way (and for if he has talent that is consistent with what Michigan is looking for, if he really wants to come to Michigan that bad, then I think that's a guy Hoke should want to have).

According to this article, he is coming up this weekend for an unofficial visit. So hopefully he enjoys the atmospher. He has a 3.3 GPA and wants to study Computer Science or Engineering. Really good kid academically and looks like an elusive runner to me in the video...

I was an engineer at Michigan and I can definitely tell you high school GPA is not directly applicable to college success (either way that is).  Not to say they're unrelated, but who knows what actual grades went into that 3.3 (for all we know he could have failed drama and gotten mostly A's in math/science). Further, as an athlete he'll get all the academic support he needs.  Not to say that I'm saying his success as a CS or EECS major will be guaranteed, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in high school GPA as a predictor for that.

This is correct.  3.3 is a B+ average, meaning he could get all As and A-s in math, chemistry, physics, etc and anywhere from Cs to Bs in the english/history type classes.  This wouldn't get him into Michigan under normal circumstances, but there are plenty of brilliant engineers who couldn't get an A in a literature or history class to save their lives.

My wife is the opposite.  She's a very good attorney and a great writer, but she literally needs a calculater to do basic arithmatic.  A lot of people are good at what they're good at and not everything else.

Honestly, I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan Jerseys is a good start.

I can't tell if he is really good at breaking tackles or the teams he plays against are really bad tacklers. I'm hoping the former. I hope Hoke offers him when he visits this weekend.

My nephew is a freshman who attends and plays for E.Paulding, and they have become a very good program over the last 5 years winning the AAAA championship in 2007. They play decent competition (a lot of speed), but the truth is this kid can do this much damage to anybody and has. I know we have offered two other talented backs, Shallman and Issac but if I'm Hoke, I get in on this kid and show love because he will be a PTP on the next level and the future sec offers will prove it.

...BigBlueFan states, "As soon as Brady Hoke Offers he will be a WOLVERINE!!! Just talked to a family member and all he needs is the offer and its a done deal. GO BLUE!!!!!"

We shall see.

He looks like a pretty solid back.  It seems like it's about time that Michigan gets a super-awesome 5-star back, and I'm not sold on him being the one...  Hopefully we get Dunn, who's pretty close to being awesome.
