I’m sure no one comes to this monkey with a typewriter and a drinking problem for takes on the “violations,” but after these serendipitous leaks, it’s this week apocalypse.  It is very obnoxious that the NCAA or OSU is leaking this info to their stooge writers to maximize damage.

They leak this Wednesday before a national televised rivalry game.  As soon as it was dying down over the weekend, and getting derided by many of the national tv media, the next piece leaks Monday, and the next unimportant piece of minor information Tuesday.

I have noticed that the media that seems to care so much are the no names that need the clicks and engagement.  Finebaum, Cowherd, RG3, Watt etc are made men.  They have million-dollar contracts either now, or in the past.  They do not care.

The other thing is that either people have no idea how football plays are called or how they are implemented.  Do people think it is Tecmo Bowl with 4 plays, not even Tecmo Super Bowl with 8, where if you shout pass, the play is immediately over?

See I called the Run right play.

1)Sign taking is not illegal
2)Scouting an opponent in person somehow is (or maybe not diary below this?)
3) Recording signs maybe is
4) The advantage gained is somewhere between 0 and minimal

Meanwhile,  Gene Smith admitted OSU pays players just to visit.  Which was open knowledge, because of Hoke’s sill no official visits rule.  This is illegal.  OSU has 10 5 star recruits on its roster, Michigan 2.  Every other position at OSU is filled by a 5 star potentially, now tell me which is more of an advantage.

This would be my playcall for Duo

My advice: stay off the cesspool that is twitter.  Have some drinks.  Walk the dog.  Follow the Unplug diary advice.   Enjoy family time on Wife Day. Realize if the NCAA really wants to screw Michigan, they can.  The real damage is already done to Michigan and Harbaugh’s reputation, now we play the waiting game.

Vieux Carre’ and Gingerbread Martini

The Vieux Carre’s is one of those historic classic cocktails that originated in the 1930’s and like the Sazerac originated in New Orleans.   It was created by Walter Bergeon in the legendary Carousel Bar inside Hotel Monteleone.

The drink combines the cross currents of America and New Orleans at the time:  Cognac and Benedictine  from France, Vermouth from Italy, Rye from upriver on the Mississippi.

Ingredients

.75 oz rye.  I’m using Sazerac Rye
.75 oz  Cognac
.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 teaspoons Benedictine
2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker.  Add some ice.  Stir well until ice cold.  Pour into an old-fashioned glass over fresh ice.  Garnish with an Orange peel twist with a cherry.

Gingerbread Martini

My wife and I actually have a real going out with adults and without the kids thing planned.  Of course, it took someone inviting us to a 90’s cover band ,and about 8 days of us ‘deciding’ and finding a baby sitter.  Then agreeing and  then finding out: Oh fuck we gotta have  90’s costumes?

This favorite of the wife qualifies as a dessert drink.   The Gingerbread Kahlua is sometimes hard to find.  But it should be making a yearly appearance on shelves soon.

Ingredients

2.25oz Rumchata
.75 oz  Gingerbread Kaluha
1.5 oz   Vanilla vodka
Cookie crumbles/chocolate sprinkles

Take all the ingredients besides the cookie rumbles in a cocktail shaker.  Shake until ice cold.  Pour into a cocktail glass and top with your garnish.

As always, thanks for taking the time to post these - will definitely give the Vieux Carre’ a go this weekend.

Have you ever tried Traverse City Whiskey Co.'s cocktail cherries and if so, yay or nay? They've found their way out to Colorado and I'm close to needing a restock on cherries.

Vieux Carre's are a top cocktail for me too! I'm one of those rare breeds that prefers rye to bourbon, so any rye cocktails are going to perk my ears up. How do you pronounce the name?? I suspect most people go for a 'Murrica 'voo-cah-ray', but I took 3 years of French in middle school and I'm a native Spanish speaker so I typically say something more along the lines of 'view-cah-ray'. What say you @mbrummer3??

As for my wife's cocktail of choice, she's always down for a Paloma or Aperol Spritz. The latter is always a huge crowd pleaser.

The Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone is amazing. It's nice place to grab a drink and get away from the  nonsense happening on Bourbon St a few blocks over. In my college days in NOLA it was a place to go when you wanted feel fancy. I make a point to stop in and get a drink whenever I'm back in town.

Wow. I love the spirit of the post, but…

I don’t like cognac or rye.

and the ingredients to your martini made me literally gag.

Just me, I guess.  Thanks anyway.

Carpano Antica would be fine,  the rye and Cognac would still balance it.  Could put that in and leave out the Benedictine?

Especially depending on the type of Rye.

Punt e Mes would probably introduce another flavor profile,  and it would seem to be a mess.

But it might give an interesting bitter kick.   Maybe reduce it to a 1/4 oz.  It would be unique change to bring in a hint of a Boulevardier.
