Game Day Weather

Get ready to bundle up if you'll be at this game! A cold front moving through will keep it chilly and breezy throughout the game. On top of that we could see some scattered showers and flurries. :P  Anyone else not ready for this?! A clipper system moving through the Great Lakes Sunday will bring some light accumulating snow for the mitten state, so you may want to budget in a little extra time for the drive home. Let's go blue, let's make happy valley not so happy!

If you're traveling to State College...

Tailgating

This is one of the games where if you don't like the cold, you'll be debating if you reeeeally want to be out there early in the morning! We'll kick off Saturday with temperatures near 40, but a lighter W wind will have it feeling more like the mid 30s. Skies will be generally cloudy and there's about a 50/50 shot of seeing some rain as showers move through the area. Snow may mix in from time to time, too. This will be the perfect morning for the hot breakfast casserole, the oatmeal bar, and plenty of hot coffee & Baileys - you'll want to keep sipping on something warm! By mid-morning, winds will be up to around 10mph. Temps will continue to hang out near 40, so it will still feel like the mid 30s. Definitely remember to grab the mittens, hat, and warm coat as you get ready to head in and cheer for our team!

Kickoff

42 degrees for the start! Just keep in mind, it won't feel like that! Winds will pick up to 15mph out of the W (enough for small branches to move) but we're also adding in some gusts. From time to time winds will gust to the mid 20s, which is enough to sway smaller trees, you'd see a lot of white horses if you were out on the water. This will keep wind chills closer to 35 degrees. Don't expect a whole lot of sunshine, and although our chance goes down, we could still see a spotty shower/mix.

Halftime

42... yep. Not a typo. We're just not warming up. :(  But it's the afternoon, you say? Yeah. It is. And it's still going to be cold lol. You might see a little sun between the clouds for the second half of the game with our winds remaining at 15mph, gusting into the 20s. This will keep our wind chills in the mid 30s - maybe go for the XL hot chocolate! We still have a small chance to catch a few raindrops/flurries but it's a pretty slim possibility.

Post-Game

Mostly cloudy to finish out the afternoon! Temps will be dropping so if you're thinking about grabbing some food or drinks, you might want to walk quickly - hey, it'll keep you warmer! Near 40 by the end of the game with wind chills in the lower 30s. For the evening, temperatures will fall into the mid 30s - with a W wind around 10-15mph keeping it feeling more like 30. If your little hand warmers haven't died yet you'll be SO glad you still have them! If you plan on staying out late - why not, celebrate that win!! - we'll be in the lower 30s with wind chills in the mid 20s. Some clouds will stick around for the evening and overnight before we turn overcast for Sunday. Scattered showers will be possible throughout the day with highs only near 40 as the next system moves in. C'mon blue!!

If you're staying in Ann Arbor...

Not the prettiest day here at home! You might see some sunshine here and there, but as a trough moves across the state don't expect much. We'll see scattered wintry mix change to rain for the afternoon, then back to mix as temps drop again in the evening. We'll begin Saturday in the mid 30s (wind chill mid 20s) before only getting into the low 40s for the afternoon. Winds will be in the 15-20mph range out of the W, keeping it feeling more like the mid 30s for the middle part of the day. Sunday brings light accumulations of snow - mainly on grassy surfaces - but you might want to add in a little extra travel time just in case if you hit the road for this one. Let's go blue, beat those nittany lions!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

thanks for sharing. windy and shitty isnt terrible since we're the only team that can actually run (i hope). clifford can run but if we contain their running, take their best weapons out due to breeze? maybe a dax pick six?? yessirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
