Tom Hammond, Move Over: It's Freekbass Time Comment Count

Excited To See You Tom Hammond is no longer the most terrifying Notre Dame-related thing on the internet. I know this is hard to comprehend.

But never has a school been so ably summarized in four emasculating minutes:

You have to watch it. It will be the most conflicted four minutes of your life. It will be so horrible, but it will be awesome because it will be more horrible for the people this abortion ironically purports to represent. That guy redefining maximum levels of whiteness goes by "Freekbass," by the way, and has won an award. It is a sexy lamp sort of award, but it's an award. Soon he will have another award.

Explains the last 20 years, doesn't it? The people in charge of Notre Dame thought this was a good idea. They  got poor Brian Kelly to show up in this thing. They deployed the school's cheerleaders as a hearty midwestern dance backdrop. They spent a lot of money and time to aim very carefully at their own testicles with a shotgun and pulled the trigger on their official youtube channel.

Of course they hired Bob Davie, George O'Leary, Ty Willingham, and Charlie Weis. Maybe they will end up in the Big Ten after all.

UPDATE: Reader Nick Gorski provides the perfect comparison: this is the exact opposite of Hockeybear blowing up Earth.

1) Freekbass really only has one song, C'mon man, I know they're sports teams, but you used that "whoa-whoa-whoa" thing to death.

2) I had a much easier time understanding the lyrics in the Reds jingle. Maybe Freekbass is [gulp] better off without the crappy producer/rapper.

3) Freekbass has really bad taste in sports teams.

Watched the whole thing from beginning to end. Honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about. I'd love to talk more, but I am late for a Zima with my friend Steve on our way to an Adam Lambert concert in Vermont.

I went to the Facebook link, and apparently there are students who think that the critical comments are coming from alumni who just 'aren't with the times.'  Someone needs to do a sociological study on that place.

This one's my favorite:

Michael Burke
I'm a student, and I love it! I think it turned out great. Congrats, Ted.

To everyone who doesn't seem to be so supportive, what gives? Yeah, it's definitely not my favorite genre of music, but this video is really fun. It's not meant to be some heartfelt, tear-jerker that makes you wish to relive your glory days here. It's just supposed to be a ... See Morefun fan video to get people pumped about Notre Dame.

I hope prospective students DO see this video! Because honestly, the image that Notre Dame seems to give itself lately is not one that is very fun or exciting. Yeah, this school is of a caliber higher than many others. Everyone gets that, and I think we try to flaunt it so much that people outside of ND get really annoyed. We need things like this video to show that we can just let lose and have some fun. News flash: Notre Dame actually has some personality! [Emphasis STWPB]

Finally, to anyone bashing the production value of this video, let me tell you that you really don't know what you're talking about. I'm a film major and was personally involved with the video's creation. If it were just us students making it, it certainly would not have been better. Ted is one of the biggest Notre Dame fans I know. And $500 wouldn't have even covered a fraction of the cost of all the resources we used. I wouldn't expect you all to notice that, though, because it sounds like some of you didn't even watch the whole thing. Shame on you to try and give a valid opinion.

Bottom line, I think we all need to lighten up a bit. This is meant to be fun, and I think it will certainly work in getting people excited about football season and Notre Dame in general.

What a clusterfuck that was!

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.

I imagine Notre Dame students love this video. It's perfect for the "very sheltered but want to act baaaad" type that constitutes much of the ND student body.

Well, I was trying to come up with an additional hilarious comment; but, since I lack creativity, I'll let this Notre Dame comment on their facebook page speak for me:

"You people need to calm down. This is just a fun, ridiculous music video. I think it's hilarious. It's not saying anything about our University. It's not trying to make us look "hip." It's more in the vein of an SNL digital short, it's being Ironic. Just look at the dude's outfit. No one trying to be hip is wearing something like that, it's just silly. It's a bunch of college kids having fun making an over the top video about their school. Domers just love having something to flip out about. Stop taking things so seriously, these are college kids having fun.

All these years of Notre Dame's insistence on staying independent have been worth it--for this moment.  This is too good to be true.

Has there ever been a moment that you have been happier to see Notre Dame sitting out on an island of independence?  We don't have to defend them like defending siblings who do stupid things.  They own this fail completely on their own.

...at the 26 second mark...instead of "Here Comes the Irish!", "F--k the Irish!"? Or am I just channeling Bo? I now want to make the trip to South Bend in September....to witness them putting it on the big screen, and seeing the reaction of the ND faithful to 10,000 opposing fans laughing their asses off at them. The mocking will be golden.

Oh the fun.  The bespectacled tool that appears every so often in the leprachaun outfit is, according to the ol' Doc, Tobotius and is a producer/collaborator with Freekbass.

And where did Tobotius attend college, you ask?  Oh, you know, the university that just had their head football coach hired away from them by Notre Dame.
