Sophomore wide receiver in some variety of trouble:

“Csont’e York is suspended indefinitely for failing to meet team standards and will not report for fall camp. We demand that every person in our program represent the University of Michigan and the Michigan football program the right way on and off the field. When people fall short of that, there are consequences.”

The reason:

Rumor going around the message boards is that there was a fight of some variety in which a hockey player got hurt—shades of Glenn Winston. But we'll let the legal system play out before making any judgments.

IIRC "not reporting for fall camp" may mean that he's just not going to be a part of the team until a week before the season. The NCAA has a roster limit of 105 for fall camp and then expands that; in the past the occasional player was left off the fall camp roster in favor of a walk-on and that boded very unwell for his future.

York's case is obviously more about discipline than talent. If he does miss the entirety of fall any shot he had at significant playing time is out the door with Funchess, Canteen, Darboh, and Chesson already ahead of him. Even if that suspension gets lifted before the first gameweek he's put himself behind the eight ball in a situation where Michigan has lots of options.

Obviously this should not affect the season unless there's a tidal wave of injuries.

What are underage student athletes doing at any bar near campus.  Csont'e York is 20 years old (birthday 12/4/1993); so, why are any Michigan student athletes doing in bars, or are the academic / team rules lenient on underage drinking.

It's funny how you want to give RR credit for 2011, but you don't want to blame his abysmal recruiting ( especially along the OL) for our struggles since then. As for the punishment aspect, not all police investigations are equal. It's likely that Hoke knows the real story with York and knew it with Lewan. He doesn't need to wait until the police do their investigation to know whether or not a player should be suspended.

you're sadly misinformed. Football players have been getting into fights of all varieties on campus and off-campus forever. It certainly happened while Schembechler was coach; the main difference being that the local media was far more solicitous of the football program's PR needs back then than it is now.

That doesn't change the fact that if York really did cold-cock some guy at a bar with no provocation, then I'm 100% in favor of booting him off the team for at least a year.

I'm going to assume that's a picture of C'sonte York in the article, but the MICHIGAN on the front of the helmet is so distracting I can't even tell who that is.  CLUTTER!!

I know nothing of the actual incident behind this suspension, but if it's a fight it reaffirms my belief that NOTHING good comes from trying to prove your manhood at 1 am.  Outside, that is.  Inside, by all means go to town.
