NCAAFB Open Thread: The Final Countdown
I hate scrolling through long open threads. I'm expecting a bit busier thread for OU/Nebraska. We're starting a new one.
The final three automatic qualifiers are named tonight.
FSU vs VT (-4.5)
OU vs Nebraska (+4.5)
UCONN (+2) vs USF
My picks are above. Jamiemac has upsets across the board.
Discuss.

I had club tickets to the VT-FSU game tonight but passed on them. I hate passing up on free tickets to anything, especially a college football game, especially a conference championship game. But its 35 degrees and rain/sleet down here in Charlotte tonight. Good or bad decision?
December 4th, 2010 at 8:21 PM ^
Won't say it's a bad decision. My obsession would demand me to go out and watch the game. If I can get to the game with less than an 8 hour drive and someone gives me free tickets, I'm there.
December 4th, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^
Wow. That's legit. They were club seats too (outside, not box).
December 4th, 2010 at 11:31 PM ^
16 hr round trip?
I only do that for Michigan. That's hard core.
December 4th, 2010 at 9:49 PM ^
There are some awesome restaurants in the club where you can watch from behind the heated glass while chowing on a mound of nachos a foot high and chugging brews. I take my son and daughter to that stadium for the Meineke Bowl every year and we sit in the club. GREAT seats. Once you have club seats, it's almost impossible to go back to the lower/upper levels... The atmosphere in the stadium is incredible too. Great place to watch a game. Next time, go. You won't be disappointed.

To me I've seen Nebraska as a pseudo member of the Big Ten all season this year. I'll be rooting for their victory tonight.

I hate the Huskers just as much as I did at the end of 1997. I still cheer when they lose. Them joining the Big Ten doesn't change that hate for me.

The only reason I am rooting for them is because they are joining the Big Ten next year and having a conference champion join the conference can only make it stronger.

Bo says, "Hello!"

December 4th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
BO WAS NOT A MICHIGAN MAN!
December 4th, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
Bo was no Buckeye. He was a Miami (Ohio) Redskin.
December 5th, 2010 at 1:02 AM ^
He immediately came from Miami, but before Miami he was an assistant at OSU. He was also an assistant at OSU in the early 50s. So... twice buckeye before once and forever Wolverine.
December 5th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
That's like saying that Corwin Brown is a Domer, just because he worked there for a time. Bo was a proud Miami Redskin. He just happened to work at OSU for a time.
December 4th, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
I swear he was on the team back in 2005 for OU...dude seems like he has been there for about 6 yrs or so.

55 yards straight down the middle with length to spare.
I think a tear just fell down my cheek.
December 4th, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
and it was still above the top of the goalpost.

You mean those yellow things that we routinely miss by 10 yds to the left or right? I always wondered what those yellow things were.

December 4th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
It just seems unfair. That field goal by Nebraska looked like it would have been good from 65 yards. And we can't even make 20 yard field goals.
Also in the kicking game, both teams have kicked some really impressive punts. No 8 yarders for those guys. Must be nice.
December 4th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
I hope Michigan never plays Oklahoma again. That fight song is brutal.
December 4th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
I thought the USC fight song and the PSU roar were bad. This is just the same 14-note sequence on infinite loop.

Husker ball. No lie.

gotta earn it, bud. sorry.
December 4th, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
UConn is up against USF. It's amazing to think that despite the fact that we dominated them, they would get a BCS bid.
December 4th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
I find this trend of putting "Jr." or "II" on the back of a guy's jersey odd. It's not part of the guy's last name.
December 4th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
glad you mentioned that...what's up with "Hardaway Jr"? Is that necessary? Why would he even want to do it?
December 4th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
That throw was inadvisable. Thought he should have run for some yards just to get something.
December 4th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
That play was Forcieresque.
December 4th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
Neutral complaint... Man, OU gets away with some holding.

Nothing is as unforgivable as Thom Brennaman and Charles Davis doing the MNC game with Florida-OU a few years ago.

A REALLY CLOSE CALL I JUST DON'T KNOW
Dude's knee is clearly down...

Torn on who to root for in OU/ Nebraska. My head tells me that it'd be cool for Nebraska to win as a huge FU to the Big 12 on their way out the door, but my heart has never forgiven them for splitting the polls in 1997.
On another note - sounds like there must have been some Sparty's in attendance at UCLA/ USC. Massive brawl outside the Rose Bowl with 2 people stabbed.
December 4th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Looks like Michigan grads swept the hosting duties for the Tuition Toss today! Tracy Wolfson and Dana Jacobson!
December 4th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
With a Big East title on the line it is a little surprising that there is absolutely no one in the upper deck of the stadium in Tampa for the UConn vs USF game.
December 4th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
Remember, this is the big east of 2010, not the big east of 2008.
December 4th, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
They showed an overhead shot and for a second I thought the place was packed. Then I quickly realized all that red I was seeing was just empty seats (that and the fact that neither team has red in their colors).
December 4th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
DId anybody else watch the Dr. Pepper halftime toss (OK/Neb)? I've Tivod it, and watched it multiple times... what the heck happened. The guy who "lost" made all 10 throws, just like the "winner". Am I missing something?
December 4th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
I didn't watch very closely, but he either missed one or didn't get the last one off, so he only made 9
December 4th, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
They had a tie break held prior to the game. The winner hit 10 out of 10. The loser hit 9 of 10
December 4th, 2010 at 10:32 PM ^
My wife and I thought the exact same thing, so we re-watched it multiple times too. The last time we watched it we noticed that the official's hands didn't go up for the third throw. It sure looks like the ball goes in, but if you look just above the ball hopper after the third throw you will see the football bouncing off of the ground. Crazy.
