Dallas Crawford Has Michigan #1
Per Rivals:
"The atmosphere was crazy with the 112,000 fans," Crawford said. "They had a lot of support and that's what stood out the most." "That was perfect football weather for me," Crawford said. "I could get used to that weather right there. It was much better than in the spring." During each of his visits, Crawford has spent time touring the campus and the city of Ann Arbor, familiarizing himself with the school's surroundings. "I like Ann Arbor and I'm pretty comfortable there," he said. "I like the whole feeling of the town and the feeling of the people."
ANNNNDDD
"Michigan is No. 1 right now, Miami and Tennessee are tied for second and West Virginia is third," Crawford said. "I just want to see a few more schools before I make a decision. After I see Tennessee and West Virginia I will be making my decision." "I'm definitely taking an official back, probably in January," Crawford said. "In December we are expecting to still be in the playoffs, so if I can't set it up for another game it will probably be in January."

Now I got Tom Jones stuck in my head.

Michigan is becoming the University of Dreadlocks.
October 18th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
I like the sound of that. Rich Rod needs to say that on a commercial for the Big Ten Network... "We're the University of Dreadlocks!" or simply, "Our Quarterback's got dreads!"

Thanks for posting. I was attempting to take a look at the 2011 Recruiting page and it looks to have reverted back to an older version of the page (i.e. players marked as committments before are no longer, etc.). While I am secretly praying that this isn't an actual reaction of the recent losses (insert nervous laughter here), is anyone else finding the same problem?
October 18th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
The posts on MGoBoard are from February on the 2011 recruiting page . It's some kind of internet time travel.

While I appreciate his enthusiasm, I think his blogpoll will be an extreme outlier. Most others didn't even have Michigan ranked.
Oh, this was a recruiting post? Then #1 is absolutely appropriate.

Given his reference to the weather, I'm a little concerned that he's coming up in January.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
Sammy did an interview with Scout, and mentioned wanting to come up in January, so they can see it snow for the first time. They are in for a treat though, if the thought the spring game temps were rough. Haha.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:47 PM ^
Never underestimate the excitement of seeing snow for the first time. (As long as it's that nice white blowing non-slushy stuff.) It's seeing snow for the 9th or 10th or 300th time that can be a problem. And that won't happen to them until they've already committed and been on campus for a few months.
And with those dreads, they won't even need neck scarves!
October 18th, 2010 at 1:39 PM ^
I have a friend who is from Florida and he was so excited to see snow in Michigan because he always wanted to see the actual snow instead of being in a tropical weather every day. I'm sure that Crawford and Watkins will be excited to see snow.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
The worst is when there isn't snow in the middle of winter. Everything is brown, gray and dead looking...and it's still cold as hell. The white fluffy stuff makes it so much more bearable.
October 18th, 2010 at 11:50 AM ^
the more the merrier. Thanks for the update.

Don't forget that wasn't it Dallas Crawfor AND Sammy Watkins who said they wanted to play together? If we could land both of them that would be HUGE!! We could use both of them, regardless of where they are projected. Once they get on campus and position battles are in full swing, we shall see where their talents wind up.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:03 PM ^
and both have dreads.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:10 PM ^
No doubt he had a great time - Crawford looks ECSTATIC.
October 18th, 2010 at 2:21 PM ^
he's already got that Hard Edge workin'.
October 18th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
Crawford is a graduate of the Marvin Robinson school of smiles.
October 18th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
He's currently pursuing post-doctoral studies at the Kendrick Perkins school of scowls
October 18th, 2010 at 3:03 PM ^
The more dreads the better. Both Sammy and Dallas would contribute right away
October 18th, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
Is still a longshot. But still, Crawford by himself is a great recruit.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:21 PM ^
Dear God, please let it be in the 60's in January when Dallas Crawford comes back!
Goooooooooooo global warming!

that Crawford has Michigan #1 and he always has Michigan on top for the longest time. Michigan would get a stud athlete who can play CB and shore up the secondary depth.
October 18th, 2010 at 12:55 PM ^
So just so I'm straight, comments from recruits after they come to Michigan are usually true and we should believe them, but comments from recruits about other school visits are a smoke screen and full of lies from homer journalists looking to slant the recruits words who don't usually want to say anything negative?
Got it. He's a lock.
October 18th, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
First of all, no one said he's a lock. Secondly, I don't agree with your first paragraph either. When a recruit who has had us on top for a while visits and says positive things, and explicitly says we are the #1 team, I see no reason to not believe that. Conversely, if a recruit like Doran Grant said "yeah Michigan was great, the stadium was huge and we all had a great time" I think we would take it with a grain of salt until he starts saying other good things about Michigan.
Sometimes people have insider info. Some people knew Dee Hart was coming here, so his lip service to the press was just that. A guy who is seriously up in the air with his recruitment is a different story. It needs to be taken on a case by cae basis, but prior knowledge of where a recruit leans (or doesn't) is certainly taken into account.
October 18th, 2010 at 1:40 PM ^
You are correct on all your points I was just having some fun and pointing some of the absurdity of the whole process.
Obviously, Dallas has had us near the top so this is another of a hundred little signs that look good.
October 18th, 2010 at 3:33 PM ^
That's about right i'd say. Ask dh
October 18th, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
We are really missing the "white guy with dreads" contingent on this team...

I had to log in and +1 you just for the PCU reference.

Dallas I once sat through a football game in early October in Michigan that was colder than than the outdoor hockey game played in December.

I like that Florida kids have overly romanticized attitudes about snow. Gives us a nice advantage. I wonder how many southern kids would go to places like Michigan if they knew how truly miserable January and February are.
October 18th, 2010 at 2:10 PM ^
I transferred to Tulane and started in mid Jan of 2007. My first day down there is was 76 degrees. All I remember thinking was bin 'fucking' go

I can guarantee you that rival schools make sure they know what our winter weather is like. Believe it or not, a lot of people enjoy living in a place that has four seasons.

Yes, we have some idiot fans. I've heard some of the most ignorant, narrow-minded, even racist things from some people. But by and large, our fanbase has been very patient and supportive over the past three years. RR isn't kidding around when he regularly says how great our fans are.
October 18th, 2010 at 5:11 PM ^
I was also happy to read that statement, because it makes me think that the real fans far outnumber the "fans" who booed at the end of the first half and who are back on the "FR DKROD" bandwagon.

Graduated from M in 1981, I know M weather. But also I spend most summers in Charleston SC. Tried to train there this August in 120F + heat index weather (95F plus extremely high humidity). I couldn't train in that heat (for rugby) in fact I couldn't even walk in it...walked 1/2mi at 2pm and almost passed out. I play rugby in Reno NV which gets as cold as M (one game we played in 5F and ice shards all over field...field was pink at end of game...), and also wet (snow). I am small with little body fat and was scared at first of playing and practicing in the cold, in the evenings, outside... But, I find that I MUCH PREFER practicing and playing in the cold than in the southern heat. I've said it before... cold weather is preferred for football and can be a recruiting advantage. You don't know how miserable (/life threatening) it is trying to play in extreme heat...
