The Bomber on Michigan Ave is by far my favorite. It is just East of the non-Depot Town downtown area of Ypsi.
It's close to the festival, and I really can't think of other places at the moment.
And I just bought my ticket for the fest this morning.
I ordered my Michigan Brewer's Guild membership, so I should be able to get in 1 hr early on Sat.
So that's why some of the beers are listed as being released at 12pm on Sat. I was looking at the list last night and wasn't sure what the deal was
Extra $25, but I get a T-shirt what says "Beer Nut". So, there's that.
What are you looking forward to the most?
Possibly the Founder's Canadian Breakfast Imperial Stout.
Me- Founders Diablo del Noche Imperial IPA
I just checked out the website. This is ideal! Thanks.
The Bomber is great, and if you can afford to wander in to downtown you should go to Beezy's which has terrific brunch/lunch options. I do not recommend going to the Vu afterwards, FWIW.
I second this. Went to the Bomber for the first time about a month ago and was amazed at how good it was. I ordered some biscuits and gravy dish that was a perfect hangover supplement. I live on Main St in A2 and eat at the local (Broken Egg, Aut Bar, Afternoon Delight, Cafe Felix etc.) breakfast places regularly but secretly yearn for the Bomber. I've revealed too much. Go to the Bomber.
Has had excellent breakfasts since it was La Casita de Lupe. Love the potatoes.
The Bomber will serve you unbelievably large portions for between 6 and 8 dollars. Recommended.
Beezy's, across from the Vu, will serve you reasonably-sized meals. B, the chef, is perhaps the most talented young restauranteur/euse in town; the place is a 5* experience with great coffee, fantastic service, and to-die-for brunch. HIGHLY recommended.
This also bears investigation. Thanks! I'll poll my band of drunken miscreants and see if we want delicious, or huge portions to starch up before drinking for 6 hours.
I agree, Beezy's is awesome. Not only is their breakfast great, but so is their lunch. The staff there is super friendly. I highly recommend their chili!
I second/third/fourth the bomber.
Yeah, you haven't had soups until you've had B's soups.
I would probably not hesitate to kill a man if I thought it would get me her black-eyed pea soup recipe.
I do love me some black-eyed pea soup. This is creating a dilemma!
The Bomber has french toast that is deep fried and then dipped in captain crunch. It is awesome. They win.
I have only had the corned beef hash, the bomber omelette or the nature lover's pancakes (pancakes filled with blueberries, raspberries and pecans) but the next time I am there, I may have to try french toast with Capt Crunch...........................
(I say ONLY because I used to live and work in Ypsi and would go to the Bomber about once a month for 8 years or so.............)
in Depot Town has a breakfast buffet on weekends that is pretty awesome for $8.50 (coffee included, with a different special coffee each week). It's a cool local business and I think it's the closest to Frog Island of all the recommendations. That would be my rec.
Luwak definitely deserves some love. Good coffee, and ice cream for the kids. Not for breakfast though. Even on a Saturday. Although if you're bringing your 8 year old to Brewfest, there may be more problems that need to be dealt with...
if you're bringing your 8 year old to Brewfest
Someone's gotta drive me home, right?
Children are not allowed in the festival excepting very small, immobile children who remain in a backpack or stroller. Sorry, but this is an adult event.
I wouldn't want any kids near me during Saturday- I wouldn't want them seeing my behavior/state.
The Wolverine, natch
Not sure if its still open but Abe's was a must whenever I visited my brother in Ypsi. Always capped off a night of drinking with a 2am visit there, the Sunrise Special was amazing and a ton of food for the price...
Still going strong. That, and Dos Hermanos, are the only businesses still open on that whole city block.
I like to go there from time to time, for sure -- especially when it's really late at night.
you should absolutely go to Abe's. one of the best hole in the wall places around for breakfast. i like it more than the fleetwood diner. Bill Clinton liked it enough to order a chicken gyro.
with a side of stab wound, Abe's is the place for you.
A little father from Depot Town is the Big Sky diner on ecorse (5-7 minute drive) I haven't been there in a few years, but they used to have huge portions for super cheap.
I like Abe's quite a bit, but I like hole-in-the-wall type places.
Abes Coney Island--order the Early Bird its the best breakfast dish ever created for 5 dollars...thats the only thing i ever get from there
And will second the recommendations for Bomber and Abe's. For lunch, give Cafe Luwak a try for a sandwich or Sidetrack for a burger.
last time i was out for a game, i went to the bomber
had the big big big breakfast and ate all of it
killed it
i highly reccomend the BOMBER
Not close, but we enjoy the Harvest Moon Cafe, near where Michigan Ave meets US-23.
I am having a hell of a time finding a babysitter, because we also wish to attend this. Between Art Fair and of-age babysitters who have their own plans to go drink beer, we've come up dry. Folks, go out and have your fun before the offspring start arriving! Parenthood changes many things, including one's ability to go drink on a whim.
