TE Ray Hamiliton commits to Iowa
http://iowa.scout.com/2/981150.html
And Hamilton goes to Iowa. Guess we're done with TE recruiting, as I'm not even aware of any decent, available TE prospects out there with any interest in Michigan or that we're pursuing. No biggie IMO, as gotta address needs at OL and LB. My hopeful remaining targets to land for UM:
(OP edit:) RB - Hart
OL - Fisher, Zettel, Posada, Kelly
LB - Frost, Jones, Duggan, Grant
CB - Showers
S - Walls
Well, it does.
May want to include Doran Grant on that list for CB. We may not have an outstanding shot at landing him but it's still a possibility.
0.1% chance of getting him. He's all Buckeye
In the sense that it's possible to be walking down the street and being hit by an asteroid, sure...
Touche.
there for them to just give up. Based on the number it definitely looks like there will be a TE in this class. A new crop of TE's will emerge and there were a couple of instate guys who showed well at camp who may now move up that list.
Iowa makes good use of their tight ends (at least, I remember their star tight end burning us on a couple of big plays last year). While I'm not exactly an Xs and Os type of guy, my impression is that it is possible, but not entirely natural, for us to make extensive use of tight ends in our offensive system. I fully expect to be corrected though . . . .
Well, I guess Jack isn't Ricardo. Still MI TE Ben McCord could be offered now.
I also remember Iowa's TE Tony Moeaki hold on a big first down against us last year. They always have good TE play and a solid choice.
Good luck to you Ray.
one of which you may recall was a safety splitting third and forever that went for 6 (probably the play you're remembering).
Demetrius Hart is not on your list. Is that because you are assuming he is going somewhere else? I really want him at UofM, but I am feeling more and more Saban will lure him away to Alabama.
I guess he wants to be more close to being an American hero by catching passes from Ricky Stanzi.
closer, its coming closer.
/Michael Scott
He could come to Michigan if he wants to catch passes from Stanzi. Of course he'd have to play defense:
Ricky Stanzi is a Senior this year.
I do wish Ray the best of luck on his college selection. Good Luck Ray. On to the next TE.
Touche...
in the recruiting of Hamilton and according to an article on GoBlueWolverine.com, Hamilton is visiting Miller today. Kind of weird (and unfortunate for UM) that Hamilton would commit to Iowa on the day he is supposed to visit Miller who would be pimping UM.
Quote from the GBW.com article:
“Pretty soon (laughing). It’s kind of ironic, he’s [Hamilton] actually coming to visit me (Wednesday, June 30) and stay a couple nights here in Toledo. We’re going to go have a good time here, so it’s kind of ironic that I committed a few days beforehand. By this time tomorrow night, I’ll be over it. We both have to go to the right place for us, so in this situation if it happens to be Michigan then that’s great. That would be a hell of an adventure. I’m going to recruit him, I won’t lie.
There are still a couple guys out there who have Michigan offers, although I doubt we'll get them...
I've been saying this for over a year now, but Michigan is going to have a VERY hard time recruiting tight ends. It's well documented how much Rodriguez used tight ends at WVU (like, not at all) and even though everyone was excited that the coaches visited Oklahoma last offseason and said that Kevin Koger was going to be the new Jermaine Gresham, it didn't happen.
Michigan is going to have to deal with lesser talented tight ends and/or position switchers, IMO. Devin Gardner is more likely to use the tight ends than Forcier/Robinson because of his height and pocket awareness, and he won't be starting for probably another two or three years. Once someone like, I dunno, Davion Rogers switches to TE in a few years and catches 30 balls, maybe then we'll be able to recruit a decent TE.
I could easily see Koger catching 30 balls this year. He was on track for that last year until he dropped a couple, and then the coaches completely abandoned him after that.
. . . and once they removed the TE from the equation, Roy Roundtree turned into our best receiver.
I'm expecting the coaches to use the TEs to block, but when they want to pass, they'll go with four wide (mostly Stonum, Hemingway, Odoms, Roundtree). That gives you a nice mix of downfield speed (Stonum), a big possession receiver (Hemingway), a slippery bubble screen guy (Odoms), and a guy who can get open in the middle of the field (Roundtree).
#13 on the negative recruiting checklist against M. I'd love to hear some of the negative things that coaches actually say to some of these kids, richrod included, to try and sway them away from certain schools.
Due to the "RR's spread doesn't use TE's argument", even when we come at them head on, they still manage to side-step us:
check out the awareness...the zig, then zag sidestep...avoids the tackle with balance...the missed-me-biotch glare...then the nonchalant strut to the endzone.
and gotta love the adidas sweatsuit.
I thought I read somewhere that Hamilton was between UM and BC (same as Miller).
Sucks just the same though....
You're probably thinking of TE Brian Miller (from Massachusetts) who chose Boston College.
Maybe Jack Miller can talk him down from the ledge and realize that he should GO BLUE instead!
Frank Clark impressed at UM's camp, so maybe he is next. Ooops, he goes to Glennville.
sure that we really needed to pick up a TE in this class. I feel like next class will definitely need one, though.
The staff is going hard after TEs, with a number offered. I think they really want one in this class.
All this and more in tomorrow's recruitin' post, of course.
I guess I was wrong then. If that's what the coaches are feeling, I guess we should just trust them. They probably know a little more about it than the rest of us.
that's why i think they keep after hamilton as if he hasn't committed.
I have a feeling McCord's offer is right around the corner.
Another Michigan offered TE goes off the board (although I believe he showed very little interest in UM)
don't be surprised to see the staff stay on hamilton despite his early committment.
Am I the only one who sees "Remy Hamilton" when I look at this kid's name?

I thought the buzz after his commitment was that Jeremy Jackson was actually going to be moved to tight end after his redshirt. Am i mistaken?
