Why should we be optimistic about 2018 M football?
I am trying to stay positive about the 2018 football season. However, through no fault of my own, I was flipping around & came across BTN Football in 60 & they're showing the IU game from last year. OMG! This is a real stinker!
I have a gift for selective memory. I easily delete from my memory bad things. Which is why I have no memory of this game.
We are playing terribly. Terrible offense. Mediocre defense. Suspect coaching. We look confused, undisciplined, unfocused. There is only 1:05 to go & we are only up 3 to a bad Indiana team. We just committed another bad penalty. IU is driving on our "great" defense. They just tied it to go to OT.
So, with the brutal schedule this year, why should we be optimistic? Help me here. I'm always optimistic about our team but watching this game just have me a jolt! HELP!!

Don't think I said that LT would be an upgrade. I said "same or upgrade" everywhere. I don't expect the tackles to be worse; it's an open question whether or not that situation will improve.

Higdon and Evans will mae up a top 2 running back duo in the big 10 only behind Ohio State, JK Dobbins looks legit

1) Ed Warinner
2) Jim McElwain
3) Al Washington
4) Chris Partridge coaching safeties
5) Defense has 9 returning starters
6) Receiving core has a year of experience and Jim McElwain now coaching them
7) Shea Patterson
8) Dylan McCaffrey looking better, in more than one way, than Brandon Peters
9) The difference between 5 losses last year and 1 loss is not a Grand Canyon of a differennce
10) Coach Harbaugh learned from his mistakes made last year
Edit: forgot to say:
11) Ben Herbert

I don't usually like to downvote people, but you are definitely testing me. Go do some chores or something.

Michigan is winning now. They just aren't better than MSU or OSU which is understandable because they have hall of fame coaches. Earliest that'll change is when Dantonio and Meyer are gone.

neither Dantonio nor Meyer would be a problem.

The defense will be fine. The offense will mostly be a year older with new ideas / new coaches who spent the off season examining what went wrong last year. I have have much greater confidence in new eyes being able to analyze what went wrong in a way that would have been difficult to do if all the same coaches were involved.
The receiving staff will be another year older and experienced as will the returning Olinemen and QBs. Last year was a weird anomaly of inexperienced players and coaching missteps on the offensive side of the ball. There's every reason to believe things will be different this year.

Why you should be optimistic? You shouldn't be. You've probably been optimistic only to be let down for so long that you should take a "wait and see" approach. I expect 8 wins again and the preseason FPI is agreeing.

of those who posted here saying JUST THINK what Dantonio could do if he had Harbaugh's recruits. That's exactly the definition of wishful thinking.
Brady Hoke outrecruited Dantonio.

Get the offense to average this year, which I think is certainly possible with Shea, and were battling for the playoffs again.
