OT: Iowa's Kinnick Wave wins Disney Spirit Award
I know this has been talked about a few times this season, and with the regular season being all but over, and the awards coming in, this one hits close to home.
My daughter was treated at UI hospital in 2012. I have worked for UI hospital since 2015.
When we first heard about the proposal for the Wave, most of us employees thought it was a cute idea. I don't think anyone had any idea what type of impact it was going to have on the patients or familes in the Children's hospital.

* Disclaimer: do not watch that video if you are in a dusty office. You have been warned.
Despite the jokes and nonsense about Iowa (cornfields, weather, etc.), I work at an amazing facility.
Now if you'll excuse me....there's something in my eye.

This might be the best off field thing in sports. Absolutely fantastic.

Now let's hope Iowa goes undefeated at home against every team not Michigan.

That isn't salt of the Earth. I want Michigan to beat them on the field, but I wish nothing but good things for them otherwise.

They've always been my favorite nonMichigan B1G team.

In other words, I was into them before they were cool.

Hopefully other schools will do similar things.

Step 1: Build pediatric hospital next to stadium OR build stadium next to pediatric hospital
Step 2: Create a new tradition that is like waving, but better. Like dabbing to (at?) the kids. Or the macarena. Or the (Usain) Bolt. Or the Gangnam Style dance. Because those will never go out of style.
Step 3: Win the hearts and minds of America with your selfless self-promotion by manufacturing a way to win the hearts and minds of America with your selfless self-promotion.

Iowa! Something like this can put football in perspective and glad to see it brings joy to many kids by giving back! I think my allergies are bugging me a little bit right now.....

Really hope this is still being done in 24-55 years

Except in their version, fans wave at injured players on the sidelines while they wait for a kid in a van to drive them over to the basement of the student health service.

Well deserved. Iowa winning this award was a bigger lock than Baker Mayfield winning the Heisman.

place looked like a mix between a 4-star hotel and high-end shopping mall inside!
I know you were joking, but there definitely IS an arms race in the hospital industry.

My wife is a nurse at Lurie Children's Hospital in downtown Chicago (Streeterville where NW Medical School/Hospital and Prentiss Women's Hospital are). It is NICE and they do God's work there.

I'm not sure I can ever crack another Kirk Ferentz joke after seeing him tear up in that interview. I cannot imagine the heartbreak he shared with his son's family through that tragedy. Stories like this remind me how the most important aspects of sport often involve stories off the field.

I’m usually a firm believer in that you don’t just “start” traditions. They happen naturally. But this is an awesome tradition. One of the best in college ball.

Seconded.
How can you not salute a gesture to sick kids? Well done, Iowa.

After 2016 being a football year of hating Iowa as a Michigan fan, they've really turned things around in 2017!
God Bless the Iowa Hawkeyes for the greatest new tradition in sports, and destroying buckeye hopes and dreams.

Glad to see this awesome gesture get some national attention. As a fellow Wolverine in Iowa City, I must say Iowans are bar none the friendliest fanbase in the B1G.
