One Frame At A Time: Purdue
In case you looked at the season stats and wondered "is Rashan Gary actually that terrifying," the answer very much remains YES RUN AWAY OH GOD IT'S TOO LATE.
[Hit THE JUMP for hits, John O'Korn, bigger hits, a very special dance, extremely big hits, and the Dread Pirate Bush.]
THE FULL ALBUM
Is here. Explainer for downloading in .gif form is at the end of this post.
HONORABLE MENTION
Harbaugh: what just happened?
Premature signalation.
Bredeson pancake.
Poggi catch and truck.
Raging Purdue DC: one, two, three.
Harbaugh to O'Korn: I call the plays.
Block M graphic with several luminaries.
10. Cut and Run
Henry Poggi gets a great two-for-one block on the edge to spring Chris Evans for the touchdown. Multiple impact fullbacks? Multiple impact fullbacks.
9. John O'Korn 2.0, Now With Pinpoint Accuracy
no no no no no HOT DAMN:
Cover zero, about to get hella targeted, no problem:
Splitting the wickets:
Dropped in the bucket:
Six points:
New starting quarterback? We certainly think so.
8. The Kids Are Alright
Cornerback doesn't appear to be a problem. Part one:
Part two:
Part three, wsg Devin Bush:
7. The Duality of the Hammering Panda
The good: still hammerin' people. Poor damn #3 had just checked into the game:
The bad: clearly did something to a ref in a past life. For the second time this year, he was hit with an ineligible man downfield call despite lining up in the backfield:
Whatever he did, he's sorry, and also very confused.
6. John O'Korn, Escape Artist
Woop.
Woooooop.
Yeah, let's watch that again.
5. Mo Murders
RIP David Blough.
RIP Shield Guy.
Mo Hurst probably shouldn't be allowed to play special teams.
4. RIP Jet Sweep Guy
The scariest part is this barely slowed Gary's momentum.
3. RIP Elijah Sindelar
Good lord.
Sure, here's another Chase Winovich sack for good measure.
2. Dread Pirate Bush
Screen breakup:
Screen obliteration:
Flea flicker obliteration:
Dumpoff obliteration:
Human obliteration:
Yarrrrrrrrrrrrr.
FRAMES OF THE GAME: THE WINOVICH WIGGLE
Please grant Chase Winovich infinite eligibility.

A NOTE ON DOWNLOADING GFYCATS
I've noticed a few comments about the low quality of some gifs when you download from the gfycat page. I think I found a workaround.
1. If you click any of the honorable mention links, you'll go right to the page you need. If you click on the gfycat embeds, they take you to a slightly different page, so you'll need to change the URL from gfycat.com/gifs/detail/[gif name] to gfycat.com/[gif name].
2. Click on the settings button in the lower right corner to bring up a number of options. This lets you set the quality of the gfycat, toy with the playback speed (highly recommended), play it in reverse, and download GIF versions. You'll want to hit "open large GIF format" because the small ones are of essentially unusable quality.
3. I haven't figured out a rhyme or reason to this, but sometimes that's all you need to do and sometimes that link just takes you back to the original gfycat. If the "open large GIF format" URL is thumbs.gfycat.com/[gif name]-max-14mb.gif, you're good to go.
4. The URL may just be gfycat.com/[gif name], however. If that's the case, simply copy and paste the gif name (the random three-word combination in the URL) and use the correct URL (thumbs.gfycat.com/[gif name]-max-14mb.gif) instead. Now you should be able to load the GIF, right-click, and save. I'm not sure this method is foolproof yet but it's been working for me so far today.

Did Harbaugh also say "That was all me" right before "I call the plays" in the second to last honorable mention?
September 27th, 2017 at 12:42 PM ^
September 27th, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
He was mad that O'Korn was barking to Purdue's sideline after the TD. Maybe saying something like "that's on me" like you doing that makes me look bad.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:49 PM ^
I took it to mean that Harbaugh was blaming himself for the playcall that exposed O'Korn to the pass rush.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:21 PM ^
On that last gif, I was nervous Metellus was going to get hit with a targeting call. Was hoping the refs wouldn't review it being that the game was already decided and so little time left. I think we got lucky there.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:28 PM ^
Not that I or anyone else actually knows what constitutes targeting, but (1) the RB wasn't a defenseless player and (2) Metellus didn't use his helmet.
OTOH, he did launch, and did hit the guy in the head so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:43 PM ^
Right, it was that obvious launching that worried me. I don't remember if they ever showed a slow-mo replay from another angle.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:36 PM ^
The key is that he's not a defenseless player by the rule. For the non-crown of the helmet leading version of targeting, there must be three things.
1. Forcible contact to the head or neck area of a
2. Defenseless player with
3. At least one indication of targeting.
Check 1 and 3 (launching) but it's not targeting without 2.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:22 PM ^
Synergy between the gif nonsense URLs and the picture is something I look for just for fun. Raging DC number 2 is BoilingGleamingEmperorpenguin. That's amazing for a boilermaker, bald, black shirt wearing angry guy.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:23 PM ^
What's the story in the "I call the plays" gif? Based on the score, it's right after Ty Isaac's touchdown (extra point pending) so obviously things were going well, but O'Korn still looks to be in trouble.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:03 PM ^
O'Korn jawed at the Purdue sideline a bit. Harbaugh expresses himself explosively, but he wants all the flak to be of his own making, not his players'.
I should check this before posting, but that might have been the drive where O'Korn was targeted. If so, I have a harder time faulting him for yapping.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:26 PM ^
I didn't watch the game (listened to it), and I haven't yet watched the highlights.
So these GIFs are the first I've seen.
That pass from O'Korn to McKeon was beautiful. Gorgeous pass, in-stride. *tears of joy*
The "split the wicket" thing, however ... um ... please don't do that again. Yeah, it worked out, but to a twitchier defender that's a pick-6.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
The spit the wicket wasn't as tight as it looked from that angle. Ball was through before the LB got his arms up. A nice throw, but not as risky as it first appeared I think.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:28 PM ^
I really like that McKeon kid, love the way he plays. Don't recall any preseason mentions of him but he's been a pleasant surprise.
That defense, hooo boy. I really dig Winovich because he's a goddamn predator out there. And Bush might be the savviest defensive player Michigan has had in a long time, maybe since Woodson.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:30 PM ^
It's impossible to choose just one.
I vote for all of the Denard the Linebacker gifs. They are so entertaining.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
Man this defense is fun to watch.
September 27th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
Yeah, was just telling someone I actually look more forward to watching us without the ball than with it.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
Rashan just throws the guy like he's a doggie chew toy and keeps motoring.
WOW....
September 27th, 2017 at 12:50 PM ^
Those are the kinds of plays he makes that don't show up on the stat sheet but clearly demonstrate what a monster he is.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
I would LOVE to see Mello put together a highlight video of Gary's biggest hits
September 27th, 2017 at 2:05 PM ^
September 27th, 2017 at 12:42 PM ^
Love this feature. And what a great collection of clips this game produced! That being said, I can't believe the "Winovich Wiggle" was the "frames of the game." Mo Murders, Jet Sweep Guy, Human Obliteration, and my personal favorite, "RIP Elijah Sindelar" all made for a tough poll vote!
September 27th, 2017 at 12:43 PM ^
The thing about Bush's screen obliteration is that he reads it so quickly, he's actually got to pause himself for a hot second so he doesn't obliterate before the ball gets there. The awareness and ability to delay obliteration until the opportune moment is impressive.
September 27th, 2017 at 6:18 PM ^
Can't he destroy at will since it is behind the line of scrimmage? There is no pass interference in that case.
September 27th, 2017 at 8:28 PM ^
But then it's an incomplete pass rather than loss of yards. The Dude is a dude.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
Because he seemed to fall down not because he ran into that poor DB, but because the DB wasn't enough of a challenge to his momentum.
September 28th, 2017 at 12:26 AM ^
September 27th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
How are we not getting the obvious #1 which is the Purdue coach uh.... um... I guess.... shaking up a can and then it explodes? I demand an answer.
September 27th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
I voted for Rashan, but that Devin one is fantastic, too. Devin is my new favorite player on the team.
Miss you, Jabrill.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:02 PM ^
This compilation is one of the best I’ve seen. It was really hard to choose.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:06 PM ^
My favorite part about the Devin Bush screen obliteration is that he actually had to check up so we could wait until the guy caught the ball before blowing him up
September 27th, 2017 at 1:07 PM ^
So much carnage. Hard to choose just one.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:16 PM ^
So many things you don't pick up on real time.
Bush is a phenomenal player!!! His reads and quickness, and little things are incredible - like the attempt to strip the QB as he one-arm sacked him. Oh Lord, please don't let him get hurt.
One other thing I noticed was that O'Korn made quick reads and decisions, more like a seasoned QB. The frame "#9 - Now with Pinpoint Accuracy", that actually was a pretty good window, but it was closing very rapidly. A moment's hesitation and that would have been broken up or picked. I think his confidence is was we need in a QB (along with his accuracy!). After Speight's injuries and increasing with each game it seemed like he was hesitant to throw the ball, much like Gardner. With similar results. With the correct timing, the whole offense seemed to click.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:21 PM ^
IMHO, the hero of those GIFs is shield guy. As he settles to try to block a rampaging Mo Hurst, I swear I can see him thinking "Oh well - everybody has to die some time."
September 27th, 2017 at 1:28 PM ^
September 27th, 2017 at 1:43 PM ^
Low man doesn't always win, apparently...
September 27th, 2017 at 2:13 PM ^
Yeah, that just wasn't fair. I watched that several times and just laughed.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:24 PM ^
Granted, zero pressure, but he looks right, checks off to the left, and the aims his target, leading the receiver and delivers. Impossible to do this better.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:27 PM ^
bush on the human oblit...was looking for something to do, so just busts a guy. that was great.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:54 PM ^
Tough choice this week. Bush Human Obliteration is just fantastic; watching that poor Purdue guy go flying three yards will never get old. But man, the RIP Elijah Sindelar gif is so fun. Chase outta nowhere! And Gary eating people will never not be great. So many good options.
September 27th, 2017 at 2:02 PM ^
You can't choose just one. You can't. Even though it was an enormous mismatch of both weight and power, I have to say watching Gary just frickin annihilate that jet sweep wideout was beautiful.
But the best is probably human obliteration. Devin Bush is not of this world.
September 27th, 2017 at 2:04 PM ^
The best part of the "Dumpoff Obliteration" is how Harbaugh drops his play sheet at the end. I imagine he's saying "sweet mother of God."
September 27th, 2017 at 2:11 PM ^
RIP Elijah Sindelar caused me to come off the couch and yell "holy shit" when I saw it live, so that was my vote. Poggi running down that poor DB caused my son and me to break out in laughter and replay it. Also, Devin fuckin' Bush, man. Jeebus.
September 27th, 2017 at 2:17 PM ^
1. This should have been tagged "NSFW". That is a lot of carnage. Best to be sure you give some people a heads up on what's about to come.
2. I think Scott Frost would even agree that Michigan out-hit Purdue in this game.
3. That Nick Holt (Purdue DC) guy should really avoid mixing his steroids with his daily amphetamines.
4. It's possible in the 2nd half, that neither Blough or Sindelar wanted to go back out there, knowing that their life was at risk.
5. This might have been the best collection of defensive hits we've had in a One Frame post. And to think Don Brown has more up his sleeve for our real competition later in the season. Whoa.
6. Imagine you're a RB and you see a running lane open up. Which one guy do you wish not to see fill the hole: Gary, Hurst, Bush, Hudson? I think my vote would be Gary, but if I'm taking a full speed collision with any of those 4, I'd be laid up in a hospital bed for 6-12 months. My 145lb frame doesn't hold up well during high speed impacts.
7. This can also be a Don Brown and Jim Harbaugh appreciation thread. Having a backup QB come in and look as crisp as JoK did, is a testament to Harbaugh. And I think the GIF's speak for themselves regarding the work of Don Brown and Greg Mattison.
8. Go Blue!
September 27th, 2017 at 2:25 PM ^
Win with cruelty. So much carnage.
September 27th, 2017 at 2:48 PM ^
Question from a neophyte: in the O'Korn-Houdini sack-escape clip ("Wooop"), is what he does with his feet at the moment before he throws an example of what folks on this Board often emphasize re a quarterback properly "setting his feet" to throw? If so, impressive under the circumstances.
September 27th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
...is a MAN. My God, I knew he was good but his ability to set his feet and take off or just obliterate people in an instant is special. I already put him on par with Peppers, with the potential to surpass him.
I'd buy a #10 jersey tomorrow, but then I will get ridiculed for wearing a Brady jersey 20 years later.

Freaky scary defense...glad they're our guys!
