What do you want to see against the Fightin' Fickells?
UC is coming off a 26-14 win against the Austin Peay Governors. The team stats of the game are not impressive so this should be an easy victory. Aside from no injuries, I'd like to see a dominant offensive line performance and to see what Kareem Walker can do. I also wouldn't mind seeing some Brandon Peters action once Speight and O'Korn are done for the day.
What do you want to see?

Wilt looking like mechawilt - that's on the WRs also, keep in mind
other than that, there's nothing the cinci game can tell us that the UF game didn't

The announcer not call our defensive coordinator "Donnie Brown".
Unless I'm out of the loop, and he actually goes by that.

I'm so happy that that was one of the few things that irked me a bit. We're definitely in good hands if that's one of my complaints. First World Problems.
But seriously, don't give kid nicknames to professionals that don't want them. I've never heard an announcer say Joey Montana or Tommy Brady.
September 4th, 2017 at 10:07 AM ^
Even if he doesn't go by that, I'm curious as to why one would take umbridge on his behalf? The announcer wasn't being disrespectful or treating him like a kid. I think especially in sports adding "ie" or "y" to a dude's name has been used especially when reacting positively to something they've done. Sometimes the nickname sticks and sometimes it's just a on-off, but I wouldn't be surprised if Don Brown has heard that before and maybe even the GOAT has too.

I take umbrage at your spelling.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:46 AM ^
It initially bothered me too & I thought maybe I was the only one. But the more I thought about it the more I liked it. Since coach Brown is always talking about dudes, Donnie Brown sounds more like a dude than Don Brown.

Rush for 400 yards. At least 250 coming by rushing up the middle, not on the edges.
Speight in for entire game to get live reps. Maybe it'll help him bring the ball back down to catchable for his receivers.
Shutout on defense. Hold them to under 39 yards total offense.
No field goals, just touchdowns
DPJ on a kick return TD
A pick six early that breaks their will.
Luke Fickell slamming his headset on the ground in frustration then losing his cool in the post-game interview when someone asks about it and getting fined

It can only give Nordin more confidence. Plus, I like seeing him bomb kicks.

I wouldn't look into the Austin Peay game at all...those guys will be ready and fired up to visit Ann Arbor. Like the majority of the teams around the country, they started slow this past weekend.
Check the numberss, their QB can sling it and that worries me. IMO, he's better than anything Florida threw out in front of us.
Now when I say worries me, not that we'll lose...but that the game will be uncomfortable. Like you OP, I want to see backups early...I'm not sure we're going to get that on Saturday.
I think Michigan comes out an executes MUCH better on offense. Defensively Cincy's quick passing game negates some of our speed on the DL and puts more pressure on the secondary.
IMO, this could go a lot like the bad parts UCF (or 2nd half of Colorado) last year. We just won't get out hit this time (sarcasm).
We won those games, but I remember a lot of grumbling because it just didn't feel dominant or fluid. Cinci's screen game is going to give them a chance for big plays if Bush and Hudson are flying at the QB. I like, don't love these CBs...a lot more pressure on our safeties.
Offensively, I think being at home and Speight calming down and realizing he doesn't have playmaking ability and just has to be boring Speight who does what he's coached rather than Aaron Rodgers running down the field telling his coach "GO!" after his 1st TD pass will be the difference.
IMO the offense sustaining drives is what helps us pull away until Cincinnati has to get too one dimensional and the defense takes it home minus a late meaningless TD.
Michigan
14-7-10-7: 38
Cincinnati
0-7-3-7: 17

Their qb slung it for 150 yards and UC had a total of 248 yards. Auston Peay outgained them. Peay's two turnovers are what cost them the game. Also, Austin Peay was winless last year.

38-17. I will take that bet all day. Fired up, I doubt it. If Cincy's defense isn't close to being as good as Florida's which I am betting it is not, Michigan will run the ball down there throats. No one is moving the ball on the number one defense in the country. To be quite honest did you watch the game. Florida will move the ball against other teams and are better than people think. It was just a Michigan defense that dominates and allows nothing. 58-0
September 4th, 2017 at 10:02 AM ^
Florida's offense is putrid and has been for 6 years.
September 4th, 2017 at 10:39 AM ^
Didn't they win the sec east two years in a row. They had to score some points. Looking for them to destroy Tennesee in two weeks, but it really won't matter because the cat will be out of the bag by then as Michigan destroys the bearcats on both sides of the ball and special teams.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:02 AM ^
They won the SEC East two years in a row because they've had stout defenses and because the SEC East sucks. S&P+ had them as 73rd in 2015 and 88th in 2016 in offense. Traditional stats look just as bad. Florida hasn't had a good offense since 2010.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:25 PM ^
but winning the SEC East is a lot like winning the B1G West.
September 4th, 2017 at 8:13 PM ^
For each of the last two years. Their defense was usually good enough to carry them, but they lost a number of big games badly when they couldn't get any offense going (41-7 to Michigan, 27-2 to FSU in 2015, 31-10 to Arkansas, 31-13 to FSU and 54-16 to Alabama in 2016).
September 4th, 2017 at 4:51 PM ^
I tacked on a late TD.
But I hope you're right...regardless, it was a random Monday prediction, not sure why everyone is taking it so seriously.
If that sounds like you, shhhhh on Saturday if we're not firing on all cylinders as I predicted. If we come out and win 58-0 in dominating fashion, pile up the crow and I'll eat it.

If there was anyone to bet on it.
September 4th, 2017 at 4:51 PM ^
1. It was a prediction.
2. I say ignore it because teams start slow in game 1 all the time.
I'd also say ignore the 2 pick 6's Speight threw because I don't think that's a trend...I think that's Game 1 being Game 1. It doesn't mean he'll never throw another one, but what I'm saying is I don't think that's an accurate representation of Speight. I don't think last week was an accurate representation of Cincy...they started slow last year against a weak opponent as well.
Do you think OSU is as bad as they looked versus IU? USC as bad as they looked versus WMU?
If Oklahoma thinks it's getting the same OSU we saw on Thursday, they're going to get their doors blown off. OSU will be better (even though I'm still taking OU in that game). USC will be better. Speight will be better. UC will be better.
That's really all I was saying.

I think he's better than both at this point in their careers.
That said this isn't the Cincinnati of a few years ago...I feel like they had a lot more talent then.
