QB Joe Milton ('18) Has a RIDICULOUS Arm
It is looking more and more likely that Milton will be the top-rated QB in our 2018 class. Wiltfong has more information on the situation here ($):

After seeing his HUDL video (below), this is decidedly a good thing. Check the play that begins at the 1:08 mark. That kind of arm strength is rare.
EDIT: Also 5:15. He hits a WR on his back shoulder from 45 yards out.
At six minutes did he just chuck it seventy yards, can see any yardline markers?
We may finally get to see what it would have been like if Gardner got to train under Harbaugh. He has that same Vince Young throwing motion that Gardner also had at that stage.

46 yd toss, on the run, being chased and making it look fairly easy... Pretty sure I want him at Michigan.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:44 AM ^
And against his body, too.

He jumps and throws upping the degree of difficulty even further.
The Russian judge remains skeptical.

That pass at 6:23 tho'. The receiver drops it, but it's in the front corner where only the receiver has a chance at the reception.
Looks like some of his receivers have a case of the dropsies.

Yup.
And on that same play, I find it hilarious when defensive backs covering a play signals "NOOOOOO" when it's an incomplete like he caused the PBU when in reality they had nothing to do with it.

Many of his throws early on are after it looks like he's going to take off running. He's right up to the line of scrimmage. That shows that his eyes are constantly downfield. If he starts running bootlegs with regularity too, we'll have a real good weapon on our hands.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:05 AM ^
As long as he can develop the habit to keep both hands on the ball, he has that unique awareness downfield while scrambling that Wilton does. The big difference, though, is that Milton can throw the ball 55 yards in the air ON THE RUN. With his frame and athleticism, as well as the growth of our influence in Florida, this would be a great get, and a surprising one given UF's previous stature with him.

He'd give Cordell Stewart a run for his money right now. Joe! You're going to be offered tons of money and women and cars...do the right thing, come to Michigan! You will be involved in a top notch program with top notch coaching and teammates. You won't regret it, Go Blue!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:01 AM ^
Too soon.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:15 AM ^
You're joking, right? Heck, even coach Harbaugh told him to keep his head on right, I read somewhere. No, it is not too soon; if anything it may be a tad late to start getting advice like this from somewhere, hopefully he's had a good upbringing and makes a sound decision.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
Yes, it's still too soon.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:11 AM ^
CS...
Otherwise, you are right on. The money, women and cars will come after 4 years of NFL ready training with Jim Harbaugh. Not to mention a great education and the best college experience anywhere. This is a no brainer for young Mr. Milton, he with the RIDICULOUS arm...
April 25th, 2017 at 11:42 AM ^
for spelling it wrong. How can you not know the person you hate so much?
Kordell...?
April 25th, 2017 at 11:51 AM ^
No, I'm over that, the pain of the loss has subsided. No, I've moved on to last year in Columbus when it comes to pain, but for those of you still feeling the 'bomb' I sincerely apologize. It was thoughtless of me.

Fuck Russell. He reminds me of Cam Newton!

April 25th, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
You mean the Cam Newton who won the Heisman Trophy and the National Championship and was the first overall pick in the NFL draft before winning NFL MVP and taking his team to the Super Bowl?
Yeah, I sure hope none of our recruits turn out like that.
I think you misunderstood his intent in making the comparison.
Upon another reading, I think you're right. My bad.

So is he pretty similar to Peters then, just not as polished of a passer?

Milton is more of a natural athlete. Adds a dual-threat element to any offense.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:31 AM ^
Peters is more of an unnatural athlete. He is white after all.

he is remarkably well spoken

Peters is probably better with his decision making, accuracy, and completion percentage. It may be more accurate to say that Milton is more raw at the same stage of development and may need more time to take on the role of a starting QB.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
I know it's hard to tell with the limited sample sizes and such, but which would you say has a higher ceiling?
April 25th, 2017 at 11:16 AM ^
Peters.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:17 AM ^
I disagree. Milton has better legs. He has all the physical tools to be an elite dual-threat, but he isn't highly ranked because he is INCREDIBLY raw.
Peters has a much higher floor, though.

April 25th, 2017 at 11:09 AM ^
He'll need some work for sure. But he'll have an opportunity while being behind Peters and McCaffery to work on his mechanics. I wouldn't expect him to be in the mix for 2-3 seasons, maybe (?).
He'll do spot Hail Mary duty.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:04 AM ^
With that arm, he should have to carry a permit.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:08 AM ^
But tap the brakes on using arm strength as a proxy for quarterbacking ability.
Around here that's known as the "Shane Morris Rule" served with a side of "Hoke/Borges Caveats Apply."
In other parts of the country, it is known as the "Jeff George Rule," "JaMarcus Russell Rule," "Ryan Leaf Rule," etc.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
Hoke/Borges caveats stopped applying at the exact instant Harbaugh finished signing his contract.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:17 AM ^
April 25th, 2017 at 11:22 AM ^
Uh, this doesn't seem to apply to Wilton, as he almost always throws it too hard, i.e., too far.
It sure helps that Milton has some incredible WRs. Are any of those guys upcoming seniors and are they on our radar?
April 25th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
Jeff George, JaMarcus Russell, and Ryan Leaf were all terrific college QBs. What are we trying to achieve here?
