OT: Ohio State Recruit Arrested While on Official Visit
Four-star wide receiver James Robinson was arrested last weekend by Columbus police while on an official visit to Ohio State and charged with one count of possession of marijuana, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.
Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 207-pound wideout from Lakeland, Florida, was taken into custody at an off-campus apartment on the night of Jan. 21 and released later that evening. He returned to Florida the next day, but is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on March 1.

No Michigan fan in his right mind would be a cop in CBus.

...I hope he'd know better than to blow his cover on something this weak.

That'd be hilarious especially because he wasn't even committed to them. We REALLY don't wnat you here.

WOTS is that he used the wrong salad fork and talked with his mouth full. You're never getting into the Circle of Trust with that kind of behavior.

I was thinking it was more along the lines of forcing the kid to be in Columbus. All of a sudden he has to be at the police department every other week to meet his probation officer and other terms in Columbus... so hey you might as well commit to the university since you have to be here for your probation anyway !!

1. Make Sure that You Don't Suck
http://brown-snout.com/humor/the_jocks_guide_to_getting_arrested.pdf
Before you go out and committing crimes, it's important to first make sure you're at least slightly better than the 30 or 40 guys the team's assistant GM could instantly pull off some practice squad to replace you. Otherwise you will become fodder for the team's zero-tolerance policy. Conversely, if you're awesome, the line will be, "There've been some bumps in the road, but hopefully he's learned from that".

Several years ago, I worked at a 21+ bar on the OSU campus. One night, a bunch of OSU players came in with none other than... Braxton Miller. He was a recruit at that time. I believe that he was actually 17. I didn't know any of this until after close, when the owners caught wind of it.
Believe it or not, the security staff got their asses chewed harder than I've ever heard. But yeah, figured this anecdote was pretty applicable here.

Yup, perfect fit for a Buckeye..... because Michigan FB players don't and have never smoked dope, at least not while they're talking to Santa and the Tooth Fairy.

I don't condone kids smoking weed obviously but make it legal, regulate, tax it, then he would have been charged only with underage weed smoking.

It will show up in a background check. I was a baseball league president and had to run background checks on coaching applicants. There was always at least one that would come back for weed possession. They weren't allowed to be coaches.
Also, from studentaid.ed.gov:
Is it true that drug convictions might affect my ability to get federal student aid?
Yes; your eligibility might be suspended if the offense occurred while you were receiving federal student aid (grants, loans, or work-study). When you complete the FAFSA, you will be asked whether you had a drug conviction for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid. If the answer is yes, you will be provided a worksheet to help you determine whether your conviction affects your eligibility for federal student aid.
If your eligibility for federal student aid has been suspended due to a drug conviction, you can regain eligibility early by successfully completing an approved drug rehabilitation program or by passing two unannounced drug tests administered by an approved drug rehabilitation program. If you regain eligibility during the award year, notify your financial aid office immediately so you can get any aid you’re eligible for.
If you are convicted of a drug-related offense after you submit the FAFSA, you might lose eligibility for federal student aid, and you might be liable for returning any financial aid you received during a period of ineligibility.

It's kinda like getting Al Capone on tax evasion. Karma and The Universe are getting him for visiting OSU.

I don't smoke so I'm not knowledgeable about the subject, but is it a big deal if the weed is underage? Does it make it less potent? Does it taste bad? Anybody have the skinny on this underage weed?
January 28th, 2017 at 3:25 PM ^
Serve it at high school for them, good idea too no? /s
Or, maybe it's just better to regulate it, take the mystery appeal away, take the crime away, add to the tax base and agriculture and make kids be 21 to use it the same as alcohol.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:07 PM ^
The only negative to legal weed is the big pharma/agro/chemical companies like Bayer/Monsanto taking it over and genetically modifying it and creating a monopoly of some sort which believe me they are already trying to do.
At the same time, think of the relief on the criminal justice system from all the "crime" that disappears overnight. I guess if you're in that business somehow maybe you don't want the gravy train to end but it's for the greater good of the public big time.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:50 PM ^
the negative thing is that Feds don't want that money in their banks or credit unions. So, you end up with piles of cash in a safe. Won't be long until we start reading about a rash of owners getting robbed.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:59 PM ^
Don't forget tobacco companies and food conglomerates. Once it's legal nationally it will be a feeding frenzy; in the interim it's attempts at regional cartels like the Ohio/Nick Lachey legalization bill.
The prison industrial complex will be fine. They always seem to find a way to fill empty cells.

I read that arrests in Colorado dropped like 20%, which is just outrageous how many people are locked up in a cage for possessing a plant
