OT - New Years Eve plans
MGoCommunity
while we're in a bit of a lull regarding content I thought I would ask to see what you all have planned for NYE? Staying home and watching the games? Avoiding the NYE games altogether?
I was thinking about heading into Ann Arbor for NYE. Anyone know of any good specials happening in or around the city or any cool restaurants or bars to ring the new year in?
Have a happy and safe holiday season!

I simply cannot watch their games (unless it is against UM, of course). I'm just so sick of how much winning they have been doing.

I was a pretty avid New Years Eve partier. I was lucky to never end up in jail. Now I've out grown it and leave that night to the amatuers.

gets more expensive for that 1 night too. Cover charges to get into bars, the drinks themselves.....the cab rides, prostitutes .....etc

Me too. New Years Eve was always the most, um, productive night of the year for me.
Now my NYE is waking up to watch the ball drop and then going back to sleep.

Yeah, haven't gone out to bars for NYE in years. For several years, we hosted a party but couldn't get people out of my house before 3am. Now we do a party at a friends house a few blocks away, and we leave right after midnight.

Anyone want to recommend a wine?

I used to work at a wine bar and I used to sell the crap out of Ergo Rioja. Its a Tempranillo. Easy drinking wine. Kinda between a Merlot and and a pinot for like 10 bucks. Go to Costco and get a rack of lamb and drink that baby with it. You won't be disappointed.

NYE, St Patty's, Halloween, etc are amateur hours. Every bridge and tunneler and their cousin is coming into town and since they only make the trip 4x per year, they don't know how things work and just act a fool.
Best plans: have a friend with a sick pad, get invited over, drink better/cheaper booze, use cleaner/more private bathrooms, and get to hang out with people you actually want to be around. Added bonus is if you get to crash at the house.
Seriously, those days can be fun, but often are like prom. Built up to the moon but often disappoint.

I'm a big cab drinker and one of my favorite is Educated Guess. About $22/bottle but if you're a kroger member you can get it for $16 or so.
Another suggestion is Decoy or for great bang for your buck: Josh. Enjoy!

Some damn fine wines coming out of that region. Some of my go to wines: Mark Ryan, Rotie, K Vintners, Cadaretta, Seven Hills, Long Shadows. Boudreaux, in Leavenworth, sources their grapes from the Columbia Valley. Their Reserve cab is possibly my favorite wine.

Was always good for Merlot, especially Horse Heavens Hill and the Red Mountain regions. Washington CABs and Red Blends have really been competing strong with Napa. Cor Cellars is excellent, along with HIgh Tower Cellars, Alexandria Nichole. Darby (swagger cab), Canoe Ridge, limited edition benches Cab. 2nd label for King Estate, NxNW cab has both Columbia valley cab and Wala Wala Cab. Woodward Canyon old vines cab was excellent. Mark Ryan, dead horse cab. Henry Earl reserve cab is good. Spring Valley Vineyard's, Derby and Fredrick cabs.
This just a few of my favorite WA wineries, there are a lot more out there.December 20th, 2016 at 6:19 PM ^
Alexandria Nicole is one of the few tasting rooms we always go to when in Woodinville.

Pretty low-key evening planned. Inviting a few good friends over to hang out, play cards, and watch football. I'll also be making my (thanks to super-chef, Bobby Flay) specialty, chicken parmigiana, for dinner.

Why, is something else happening that I have no interest in?

South Beach, baby!

I'll be there. Hoping to find a fun party without the expensiveness and preteniousness.

So, not South Beach.

I stay the hell home on New Years Eve as I'm 48 and I've proven everything I'm going to prove at this point - whatever that means.
Football, family and food.
Oh, and I traditionally binge-play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete.

Is that a total conversion or an additional user made expansion.
I assume total conversion. I'll read up on it more later.
Is it awesome?
December 20th, 2016 at 2:09 PM ^
It's fucking awesome. It's a conversion I guess. Adds a new Cove town, piirates. Many new world structures, creatures. A new map editor. Huge, very hugh, gargantuan maps. Check out the HD conversion. Look the site over, there are other mods as well. I'm with you on Civ III, best one of all.
December 20th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
Well, I guess I know what I'm doing New Years Day then!
Are there lots of maps for it it out there? Or does it come with lots of professional-grade maps?
Sorry to everyone else on the board. This is serious business, though.
December 20th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
It comes with it's own campaign. The best map editor I've ever seen. A lot of user made maps, very well done. Your really need to go over the site. I remember the first time I came across it. I was like wow I'm not the only maniac out there. Yeah your News Year Day is goiing to be all shot to hell.
December 20th, 2016 at 3:42 PM ^
Last question:
Can you play existing H3, Armageddon's Blade and Shadows of Death maps with it?
December 20th, 2016 at 3:45 PM ^
Yes. I called it an conversion but it really is more an expansion with a lot of tweeks. Happy holidays dude.
December 20th, 2016 at 11:12 AM ^
I'll watch the games and have New Years Eve dinner at a Japanese Hibachi Steak House that we always go to on NYE.
It's lively and fun and they have the games on big screen TVs at the bar, so I won't miss anything in the semis that give us a Washington - Clemson NC game.
December 20th, 2016 at 11:19 AM ^
at home. Watch some football and maybe stay up to 12:00 and see the ball drop. Like many others used to party all night in my younger days, now it's not that big of a deal to me anymore.
December 20th, 2016 at 11:22 AM ^
Going to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra in Seattle, then Toulouse Petit for dinner, then home. May go see my buddy's band play when I get home. Depends on how tired we are.

December 31st, 2009. Best decision I've ever made (still amazes me to this day she said yes)
