Wilton Speight Out For Regular Season
John O'Korn to the forefront [Eric Upchurch]
Per a source, Wilton Speight has broken his collarbone and is out for the remainder of the regular season. Depending on the exact nature of the issue it is possible he could return for the bowl game.
FWIW, when Tony Romo broke his collarbone last year he was projected to be out eight weeks, and was supposed to be out 6-8 after collarbone surgery in May. Speight had a bad collarbone break in high school—that's why he's a year older than most of his class—and may be in line for a similar surgery.
Michigan will almost certainly go with John O'Korn in Speight's stead; in scattered snaps this year he's 13/18 for 114 yards and two TDs. O'Korn's mobile enough to incorporate some designed QB runs, so we've got that going for us.

What fucking difference does it make whether or not you were rightfully informed about Speight's injury? Does it help get him back on the field quicker or reverse the injury?
November 14th, 2016 at 2:44 PM ^
His life would have been fulfilled. Now, he sadly feels, it is not.

Still doesn't mean he had 100% confirmation.
Could it have been possible that yesterday the doctor said "there's a very good chance he has a broken collarbone" and today the definitive answer came back?
Absolutely.
Could Harbaugh have been lying through his teeth and he knew the entire time?
Absolutely.
Could it have been that Harbaugh had just found out but hadn't had a chance to tell the team and didn't want them to find out through the media?
Absolutely.
Could it have been that Harbaugh had just found out but wanted Speight to be able to tell his parents and friends before they found out through the media?
Absolutely.
...but we'll never know, so it's probably best you let this one go.
November 14th, 2016 at 3:01 PM ^
Possibly. Could also be possible that it is none of our business. Whats the difference if we find out Sunday, Monday, Friday, or Saturday? Doesn't change anything.

"Whats the difference if we find out Sunday, Monday, Friday, or Saturday? Doesn't change anything...." says guy refreshing MGoBlog every 30 seconds like a 21st century crack addict...

Someone asked if Speight could be a game time decision.
Harbaugh's response was "Could be."
November 14th, 2016 at 2:04 PM ^
He did say O'Korn and Morris would get most of the reps.
November 14th, 2016 at 2:08 PM ^
Now were just one injury away from Shane Morris bring up a national title!
Clearly sarcasm here, I wish no injury on JOK, or Wilton, nor am I disregarding Shanes abilities. Did I cover all my bases here?

so technically, we can't talk about it until we beat OSU
November 14th, 2016 at 3:00 PM ^
Honestly, you could do a lot worse than having a fourth-year guy with two career starts under his belt as your 3rd-string QB.

November 14th, 2016 at 3:43 PM ^
So if he had thrown one garbage-time TD you'd feel better?
Seriously, a guy who's appeared in 17 career games, two of them as a starter, and attempted 92 career passes is not bad for a third-string QB option. I'm not saying we wouldn't miss a beat with him, but I think he'd be halfway decent if pressed into service - I wouldn't expect a Russell Bellomy-type meltdown.
November 14th, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
if he had in one of the two starts I would have felt better, not necessarily garbage time. I believe there is a good reason why Harbaugh went after two transfers during spring ball, and that says a lot about what he was working with. I don't believe he is able to make the decent leap that Wilton made (by this I mean Wiltons decent games, not Maryland or others when he was lights out).
November 14th, 2016 at 4:16 PM ^
Morris was probably a complete mess when Harbaugh arrived - we saw how erratic he looked in the 2014 Minnesota game. But we're now two years later and he's received coaching from the same source as Rudock and Speight. I'm sure he's improved, at least somewhat.

Well that makes perfect sense. We are cursed, after all.
EDIT: OK, folks. After seeing some comments in this thread and on Twitter, it's not the end of the world. We have a good backup quarterback and last time I checked, we still have the number one defense in the country. What's that old saying again? Oh yes - defense wins championships.

Whatever happens, this should make next year's QB preview veeeery interesting.

I would love to see these last few games provide a little controversy for next season. Thankful we don't have to go the Ole Miss route and burn a redshirt..

Good god, man. Michigan had its first bad game all season and now you think that Michigan will be in the Citrus Bowl. You're such a wuss. News flash... Michigan is still in the driver seat to win the conference. Win the next two games and they're in the title game.
