Can we stop panicking now?
I have seen many people on the MGoBoard in full blown panic mode because we did not blow out our opposition. Many of them are writing off our defense as a mirage and I just don't see it the same way. No team is going to ruthlessly destroy every opponent with exacting precision.
Alabama struggled to put away a very pedestrian Ole Miss team earlier this season. Just today we have had Louisville struggle with Virginia, Washington need a punt return to beat Utah, Ohio State in a dog fight with Northwestern and Baylor is in a one possession game in the 4th quarter with Texas.
Today's game featured Michigan State put together one complete drive primarily on the back of their one legitimate NFL talent, LJ Scott. After that they struggled to put together a real drive until they were down 20 deep in the 4th quarter. During this time we had the Lewis pick leading to a FG for us, the 7 plays inside the 10 yard line stuffed and a whole lot of nothing from the guys in Green. Once they were well behind they put together two very fluky drives aided by some very iffy penalties that allowed them to "make it close." Remember this was not a one possession game at any point in the second half until there was only one second remaining. Our team is still very good and our defense dominated Michigan State with the exception of their first drive and garbage time. I am very happy with the way our guys performed and am excited to see them take on the rest of our schedule.

think the one NFL player is mcdowell and not Scott?

Uh....no. Scott is your prototypical NFL back - big, fast, powerful, vision etc. He is very good and will be very good on Sunday.

so happy?

I've been happy after every game this season but this one. That was a gutless way to end the game.

We had the talent advantage AND the emotional/revenge/rivalry motivation. Yet we did not dominate an objectively poor line on both sides of the ball. That should be a concern

No one was saying that this week. It's convenient that after a less than satisfactory performance the "oh it's their Super Bowl" crap comes out.
It should NOT mean more to them than us, especially this year.

We got a little complacent after 7 wins & a 21+ point spread.
They showed up like an underdog determined to draw blood.
Hit us in the mouth, woke us up, more or less. Luckily with our talent level, this was enough.
We'll need to do better come osu & 'bama), but then we won't be as snoozy.
If we stay alert & bring everything to the game, should beat OSU.
We will need EVERYTHING -- focus, determination, AND talent -- to beat Alabama.
But we can.
The skating / hot-and-cold motivation part -- that's just a part of college football ('specially at Michigan) -- even with Harbaugh at the helm.
Don't worry, he's working on it.
And when we get *that* turned around -- then we're a multi-year championship-caliber contender.
Play on.

Never. Because the world does not want our fanbase to be happy.

I never understand fans criticizing color guys because they disagree with their opinion. Huard also said we were "elite" and that no one else other than Bama was. Regarding defense, he thinks they have better talent than we do, and that also they had played a better shcedule. Both things are at minimum debateable, and I think both are true.

Saying Bama's D is better is one thing but saying Michigan's isn't even in the same realm is another.

Beat Maryland like their coach holds a large responsibilty for the last Michigan loss.

Elite defenses smash teams like MSU. UM's did not.
I think we need to reappraise this defense.

That is my point. I am not sharing that they are not good. They are. But this is not a '85 or '97 defense. It just isn't.
