1979 Big Ten Football Preview by Bill Fleming
Interesting preview of the 1979 Big Ten football season with UM grad narrator Bill Fleming of ABC sports.
Notable changes in 1979:
- Woody Hayes out at Ohio State, 1st year for new HC Earle Bruce
- Bobby Commings out at Iowa, Hayden Fry in at Iowa
- Michigan's first season without Rick Leach as starting QB after 4 years. Predicting BJ Dickey, Jim Paciorek, Gary Lee or John Wangler as replacement.
- The evolution from the option-run-centric offenses to more pass-centric idealogy in the conference at MSU, Purdue, Hayden Fry's Iowa and even Bo Schembechler's Michigan.

A couple comments -
1) Interesting that Ralph Clayton was mentioned prominently as Michigan's receiving threat. Little did they know yet about Anthony Carter.
2) The background music sounds straight out of a 70s porn film.

Ralph was pretty reliable though.

This could be turned into a challenge for music composition students at UM: compose the next great sports background theme. Either that, or compose a complete symphony (with multiple movements) bases on the best 70's porn music. Just think what John Williams could do with it!

Someone posted the entire 1979 Gator Bowl on YouTube. It was a loss, but still worth watching to be able to see players like Clayton and of course Bo Schembechler.

•Art Schlichster, before gambling took over.
•Mention of an OSU receiver who led the Bucks to the Gator Bowl the previous year, but no mention of the reason Earl Bruce was now the OSU coach
•Lee Corso, before his days as a commentator
•Hayden Fry's hair. Before there was Jimmy Johnson, there was Hayden
•78 All Big Ten; Kirk Gibson and MVP Rick Leach; ahead of his time as a dual threat QB.
•Awesome cheerleader outfits /s

Also: only 10 teams in the Big Ten including Illinois head coach Gary Moeller.
