OT - Olympics / USWNT vs. Sweden
I figured I'd create a thread for this since the USWNT is playing Sweden in the knockout stage but we can use it for general Olympic action today.
The match is in the 6th minute, 0-0.
TV: NBCSN
Streaming: NBC App
Lineup: Solo, O'Hara, Johnston, Sauerbrunn, Klingenberg, Long, Brian, Lloyd, Heath, Morgan, Pugh.

I respect soccer as a sport but I can't figure out what group of people are more annoying:
- Crossfitters
- Marathon runners
- Vegans
- Soccer fans
It's up for debate.

We probably shouldnt be annoyed with other teams fans until we beat them.

Yesterday I was at Lucky's in Ann Arbor and there was a guy wearing a shirt that said VEGAN and nothing else. Found him!

Crossfit and it's by a MILE.
Soccer fans are capable of shutting up about soccer
The average Crossfit person I know never shuts the fuck up about Crossfit. They work it into every conversation and always let you know about their workout.

Checking out this thread to see how the game is going and seeing nothing but comments about everything other than the game.

In a sports fan paradigm, I've found that I no longer have much patience for:
1. People who feel the need to dog sports they don't like, usually with mindless platitudes in favor of their own sport at the expense of others. I've seen this from fans of almost all sports; it's really dumb.
I'm really ok with believing that one sport is better. A guy who says "Baseball is the best sport in the world," for example. I may disagree, but if you love your sport, great. But, "Baseball is the best sport and football is dumb because it's just a bunch of meatheads hitting each other."
2. People who feel the need to berate those who don't appreciate their own favorite sport. Sports are a game, an inherently subjective form of entertainment with no inherent value. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't like your sport. And there is nothing superior about liking more sports or fewer sports (and I say that as someone who appreciates and enjoys watching more sports than almost anybody). If someone just cares about one sport, great. If they like many, great.

Did you read what I wrote? I said I respect the sport. I am a hockey guy and hockey fans are annoying as well due to the DISRESPEKT we get.

Replace soccer fans with NASCAR fans.
Literally, soccer fans are a mouse fart compared to the Hindenberg crashing into your Oldsmobile as you drive into lava.

Sweden finally gets a yellow card...on their third or fourth questionable foul of the half.

USA looking sloppy again like the other night against Colombia. 8 shots and only 1 on goal.
August 12th, 2016 at 1:20 PM ^
Sweden scores on the counter and the US looks useless on attack. Pretty nice finish by the Swedish striker there.

Aaaaand... Solo lets another one by.

against Columbia and I figured that was because they were sitting a bunch of starters. Starting to worry at this point

Confession: It's not exactly like other sports, but I've always wanted to see an auto racing event in the Olympics using identically prepared cars. Auto racing is a widely varied discipline where many of the series are determined by the preparation of the car rather than the skill of the driver. And there are so many different types of series. The "best racers" don't face each other and don't even drive similar cars.
A race or series of races in, say, identical GT Porsches, with two drivers permitted per country, would be a delightful. Most Olympic cities have adequate racing venues nearby, so it wouldn't be diffiicult to add. And the selection process would be fascinating. Which two Americans get picked? Are they both NASCAR drivers? An Indycar driver?
There would be a lot of guys capable of medalling. With identical cars, the racing would be close. Yeah, it involves cars--not exactly a classic Olympic event. But it's something a lot of people enjoy and that has participants worldwide. And there are legitimate questions about who the best drivers are; it would be exciting to get some answers.

The NBCSN ad for NASCAR returning after the olympics is most annoying. Que the twang talk about only one anthem and one winner (as if you don't get points for placing 2nd, etc)... Whoo 'Murica!
August 12th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
Yeah, that commercial is a jingoistic appeal to sport superiority... aimed at people who are watching the sports being bashed. Not sure it's a good move.

Morgan capitalizing on a bad clearance by Sweden. Looks like the Swedesh Defender Scott Sterling-ed that ball right to Morgan.

That was a great goal by Morgan. Think they should get her more involved.
August 12th, 2016 at 1:46 PM ^
They are finally looking competent and getting some good shots on goal. Really hope they can capitalize now instead of sending it into extra time or PKs
August 12th, 2016 at 1:47 PM ^
Hope Solo is an awful person. I hope the US wins, just as long as the other team scores 5-6 goals.
