Deadspin Awards: Most Insane Coach
He may be an insane coach, but he's our insane coach.

I'm going with War Paint Harbaugh.
If there's a second and third place, he had to win those too.
Edit: I see he was the only coach nominated for all five slots.
Sounds about right.
that's he's the only nominee, or technically he was nominated five times... lol
However, I do think there are other coaches who could have been nominated even though no one comes close to Harbaugh's craziness.
Other than Harbaugh, here's who I would nominate:
2. Pat Fitzgerald
He jumps around on the sidelines like a man child.
3. Mike Leach
Crazy in a different way, and not to the degree of Harbaugh (no one is)
4. Bo Pelini
If you are a ref or a reporter he will probably hate you and let you know it
5. Steve Spurrier
No longer coaching, but he had a quiet nuttiness about him on the sideline
6. Will Muschamp
Could go from 0 to 100 on the fury scale if a player f-ed up
Honorable mention: Brian Kelly, Tommy Tuberville, Randy Edsall, Dabo Swinney, Mike Gundy, Nick Saban(?)
Gotta have the grass eating Mad Hatter, Les Miles on the HM list.
Everyone knows who's tops, so let's add some uncertainty by making this one a trophy for the Steak Knives.
...brough to you by Peter Thiel
for being losers. That's just the way he is.
I voted for "Jim Harbaugh"
I voted for Kodos.
Well, I don't blame you, then.

The day we see a report about Nick Saban practicing and running drill shirtless along with the players and smearing blood on a player's face and the moment we hear about how he, as the story says about Harbaugh, had no chill as a kid, let me know. Until then, this poll looks just as it should, I would say.
Love the comment about Saban:
It’s Saban. The only thing is Saban isn’t fun crazy. He’s more serial killer crazy.
Harbaugh is one spicy human. I dig that.
Is he's crazy like a fox!
Harbaugh is the most obviously crazy, so I don't quarrel with the choices. I agree with most that it's "good crazy" so Jimmy Harbaugh crack corn, and I don't care.
But Nick Saban is crazy too. Just more in the "most likely to have body parts in the crisper" / Anton Chighur way.
I talked to John Robinson (80 y.o) after he spoke at my boss's retirement party last week in Orange, CA. I told him I was "a Michigan man", and he grinned and told me he was a good friend of Bo's back in the day; and that he thought Jim Harbaugh is "a little crazy", but a great coach.
This is funny and good and all, but I feel like Harbaugh isn't the most insane coach in the world. Crazy and eccentric, probably, but not insane. There are many no-doubt loonies in Latin American soccer, minor league baseball, high school football etc., that are worse than Harbaugh.

Your cat ratted you out ... Harbaugh
to describe how great it is to be a Wolverine now.
I will say, insane in a fun way is Harbaugh. Insane in a cold, heartless murderer way is 100% Saban. Guy just seems like he'd gut you for missing an assignment up 22.
He's not Coastal Carolina crazy though. Meoowwwww!!!!!
To be a brilliant genius in any walk of life I definitely think one pre-requisite is to have a screw or three fairly loose.
If Jim Harbaugh takes the program to a top 4 slot (e.g. National playoff) he will usher in a new age of college football head coaches. It will become a 24 x 7 x 365 job, full on social media blitz, 100% redline max intensity - it will drive a lot of the "I'm going to do some fishing and golfing" head coaches out the door and probably churn up the coaching ranks.
I can't wait.
Hal Mumme and Dana Holgerson need to be mentioned.

That's crazy.
I went with laser tag Harbaugh.
