Saturday Drinking, Tigers, Softball, Memorial Day Plans Thread
Mates,
It is Memorial Day Weekend and hopefully all or nearly all of you are enjoying some family and vacation time. Of note in the sporting world the Tigers got beaten like a rented mule, with two relievers giving up a combined 10 hits and 9 runs in 32 total pitches. You have to try to be that bad. Michigan baseball didn't fare so well either.
On a lighter note the girls softball team pulled out the victory 5-3.
Your beverage of choice this evening is...?
Your holiday plans this weekend include....?
Have a great, fun and safe weekend

I was on Fire Island last weekend. I bet it was very different today, between the weather (it was cool and rainy last week) and the fact that it is Memorial Day weekend.
now that is dedication.
couldn't call a landscaper?
way to fire up for the parents. and it's always nice to not find bodies or meth when you brush hog. that's a bonus.

For all the staee and THE ohio trolls, Sinologists are people who study/are experts on China/Chinese things as opposed to someone who studies Las Vegas.
or just plain 'studies' which is likely a foreign concept to a school that will let anyone who can fog a mirror become a student.
I had Rhoads Murphey in my first semester at Michigan. At the time I didn't appreciate his stature in the field of Asian Studies.
The class was pretty neat--"Asia Through Fiction." We read a bunch of novels about Asia, some by Western authors and others by Asian authors. I still remember some of the books we read (this was over 20 years ago): "Train to Pakistan," "The Execution of Mayor Yin," "Some Prefer Nettles," "The Guide," "The Chinese Bell Murders."
Like I said--I wish I had been a little bit older to truly appreciate being able to read these books and discuss them with Prof. Murphy in a relatively small class--probably 20 students.

Remembering my friends who never made it home from deployment. Memorial Day has a lot of meaning in my world.

was in the 375th until late last year. prior to that he was at NMU too.
BBQ in Brunswick and Bells Ale.
Happy softball won. Hate that baseball lost to OSU. Seems like we lose to those fuckers in most things even if we lead them in the cup standings. Crushed them in softball but still not satisfying enough.

Chef in Chicago so I'll be working all weekend. But Beyoncé is in town and like half the city left so it won't be a very stressful weekend (hopefully)...

Although I promised myself I wouldn't do too much outside today, the implosion orchestrated by Saupold and Wilson was cause enough for me to go immediately outside and mow the lawn while I tried not to say the things I was thinking about the bullpen.
As for the rest of the weekend, we're going with hamburgers, ribs, steaks and anything we can grill basically. I am trying to enjoy some alcohol-free brews as I still cannot drink pending medical approval, although this is a struggle for me. Sobriety blows.
because i would've been tempted to tune in. instead i just pulled up the box score on espn and then covered my eyes and ran from the monitor.
good food! Let us know where your place is located. When I'm up in Michigan I'll check it out.
There are a number of things to do brisket right. I would start with minimal trimming of fat, really only near the gap between the point and the flat, put the fat towards the heat on your smoker, 225-275 for about 8 hrs with consistent heat "if your lookin you ain't cookin", and finally don't let it rest or wrap with foil. let it cool so you can cut it and then serve within 20-30 minutes for best flavor. hope these tips help.
Edit - Forgot an important part. I have heard mutliple temps to pull the brisket. I pull in the upper 190s F. I have heard at 202, 195. I would suggest you pull when you feel comfortable, but not less than 195 or higher than 202. Happy Smokin'
