OT: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Teaser Trailer
Here's the new Star Wars stand alone film trailer. I know there is the thread downstream, but this one actually contains the trailer.
Personally, I love the originals, think the prequals are average with potential but poorly executed, and really, really enjoyed The Force Awakens (yes, it has similarities to A New Hope, it's also damn entertaining with great, original characters, which I think the haters disregard because nothing can live up to their expectations of the thrill of the originals).
Anyway, I'm excited about this one too. Looks a little more gritty and dark, which in and of itself does not make it good, but I like that it feels a bit more grounded in an individuals story rather than the massive story arc that is the series. It also has some samurai stuff going on there, like actual samurai stuff, not light sabers, which I'm completely on board with. Felicity Jones, Mads Mikelsen (!), Forest Whitaker (!), Donnie Yen, just a great international cast.
Thanks Space COyote. Really dig it!

It would be one heck of an album title for an Alderaan based rap artist.
And just for fun, an old fav of mine while on the topic!

Did a little digging and saw that Tatiana Maslany was considered for the female lead. She's a phenomenal actress, so I'd love have seen her. Not familiar with this actress
What happened to Kylo Ren?
This one takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

I realized this was another prequel to the original. Looks super cool though.

grew up a geek, collected all the action figures, and still am a geek. however, The Force Awakens was nothing more than fun fan service loaded with political undertones.
the political undertones you speak of, but it was EXACTLY THE SAME STORYLINE as New Hope. But it made a gajillion dollars, so Hollywood doesn't really care. Poor George Lucas was not amused.
Who cares if George Lucas wasn't amused. His prequels were such crap that the rehashed plot of Force Awakens felt like a breath of fresh air. Rogue One looks decent, but it has a good supporting cast. Mads Mikkelson is the freaking man, absolutely loved the Hannibal series. Forest Whitaker is always a welcome addition to any cast.
I hear that. I thought the premise for the prequels was pretty good, but the movies themselves were just CGI shitfests with the cheesiest dialogue. Ep 3 wasn't as bad either. I am also with you on the JJ Abrahms front. The guy gets a lot of credit for Lost, but he only was an executive producer for the majority of the show. He created the show and directed the fantaastic pilot, but after that Cuse and Lindeloff basically took over the show. When he is just executive producer the results are usually good. One of my favorite shows is Person of Interest which JJ is the exec producer on, but the show is really Jonathan Nolan's baby (Christopher's bro and lead writer on Chris' best movies). I also liked Fringe a ton, and JJ was also rarely involved.
Finally!! Someone who shares my views of the prequels!
I thought that the plots of the prequels were well rounded, but the dialogue and the CG ruined it. Then again, if I was Lucas and I liked what I was putting out, I probably wouldn't care what anyone else said either lol, he still made his millions :P I personally would rate episode 3 ahead of episodes 7, and episode one's lightsaber duel imo is the best lightsaber fight of all the films. Episode 7 was very predictable, boring, and used way too many "JJ Lens Flares." Disney & JJ failed.
On the flipside, I loved what Edwards did with Monsters and Godzilla, so I'm really looking forward to this movie.
Roger Rabbit to his movie. How are you going to make Roger Rabbit a sith lord?
prequels either, but don't think the Force Awakens was a "breath of fresh air". Liked the characters, but the plot to me was the same as new hope. That being said, I enjoy the trailer, looks like a new plot. Thank God.
Either way, it worries me that it gives Hollywood the green light to just re do movies, like "Vacation" and "Total Recall" and not put any thought into them, because they know they will make $$. Yuck.
I hear that. I loved the old 80's action flicks like Total Recall, Running Man, Robocop. They over the top violence, gore and satire made those movies such fun. The reboots just took all the fun and creativity out of those flicks. I wish that hollywood would just let those 80's movies be. I hope they don't do a running man reboot.
Forest Whitaker is about to raspy-voice the CRAP out of this movie.
Looks interesting. I know nothing about the characters or what part of the Star Wars canon the material is based on (if any).
Also, loving the fact that the misspelling of the title (Rouge One) is now trending on Twitter.
Everyone dies...
Rogue One to Return of the Jedi.
Nothing wrong with Whitaker. Ghost Dog will represent.
Already watched the trailer five times at work. I'm excited.
yep. yup.
Should be pretty darn good. Only bummer was that I was hoping they'd give us a shot of Vader, or we'd at least hear the magnificent voice of James Earl Jones once again. Ending the trailer with that would've pushed it over the top.

The end of TFA trailer with the Falcon gave me chills. That was a hell of a shot for the movie. That is also a great scene in the movie.

Yeah! My sediments were the same too. thought it was .... a little rocky.
I was very confused when I watched this earlier because I didn't realize until the end that it was a stand alone movie. I kept thinking she doesn't look like the the girl from the first movie and really? Another death star? Doesn't the empire have anything better to do than build giant planet destroying space stations?
I'm waiting for the stand-alone movie that follows the engineering firm that keeps pitching those giant planet destroying space stations to the Imperials. They must be making a fortune designing and building those things time and time again.
when they discussed whether one should feel bad for the contractors on the Death Star, who were killed when it exploded.
those Death Stars, can't they? Seems like we should be able to consult the workers/architects from a galaxy far far away to get some tips. The new Red Wings arena would be up and running by now...
