not terrific

Better than him going to MSU. But man, could we ever have used a top notch fast LB.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:33 PM ^
We especially need one who will be able to play several games in a row!

But my bigger question is why a kid from Ann Arbor was "never in it for Michigan"?
I understand not everybody in Ann Arbor loves Michigan, but those kids usually go to OSU or MSU?

He has always wanted to leave the state of Michigan. I think he wanted to escape some of the negative influences from his life here.

wants to piss off his hippie parents by going to a Catholic school.

He's going to South Bend, IN
December 10th, 2015 at 6:03 PM ^
we have gotten some kids from Columbus!

Read something that hes only played in 7 high school football games since the start of his sophomore year of high school?
How the hell was this kid the #1 recruit in Michigan?

To Hell with Notre Dame!

F&*^ Notre Dame
December 10th, 2015 at 1:07 PM ^
Hello, Mr. Jones?
December 10th, 2015 at 2:00 PM ^
I think Notre Dame would still take another LB. Hayes is more of an outside guy (6'3", 247 lbs.) while Jones is probaly an inside guy or a weakside guy (6'0", 220 lbs.).

I mean I guess that could be a good thing because it's saving his body, but still.

He is the Taysom Hill of HS LBs.

Well, numbers aren't really the issue at Michigan. We have the spots to take a high-risk, high-reward guy. That doesn't mean you ALWAYS take the risk, though.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:12 PM ^
or wouldn't want to a take a risk on a five star with huge upside even if the risk is high because we don't have good LBs? Seems like we especially would want to take a risk in our situation. However, he seems like a buck, right? We need inside LBs the most.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:37 PM ^
He could conceivably turn into the next Jaylon Smith and we will regret not going harder after him but if he does at least it is at ND and not OSU or MSU.

for him to be able to keep his rating so high??
Usually the scouting services pick up on that stuff, don't they?
December 10th, 2015 at 2:04 PM ^
I believe he played 1 game as a sophomore at OLSM, 3 games as a junior in California, and 3 games this fall at Ann Arbor Skyline.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:14 PM ^
as a Sophomore Hayes injured his left shoulder in Game #1 and missed remainder of year. He played a whopping 4 plays the entire year.
as a Junior he moved out west, was involved in a custody dispute beofre returning to MI. Played in 3 games the entire season.
as a Senior at Skyline in AA, he injured his right shoulder in Game #2 and never returned to the field.
For anyone questioning why Harbaugh didn't recruit Hayes, I must ask you: does this sound like the kind of player Jim would recruit to play for UM? Didn't think so.

If this was the day of 100 scholarship limits, then sure. Or if we were stacked with LBs in the pipeline already, then you can commit a scholarship to him. But we cannot afford to use a scholarship while trying to build depth across the board.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:29 PM ^
Sure we could. I'm not saying we should have pushed for Hayes, but there are scholarships to use for such a player. If he can't play due to medical issues, you let him transfer or take a medical scholarship after a year or two.

After watching the theatrics of his announcement video....no thanks anyways
How is this guy so highly ranked, he hardly played in high school?
December 10th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
He is 6-3, 250 lbs and outran most of the WRs at the Opening, he has legit 4.5 speed and the agility of a wide out. He's the same type of ahtlete as Jalyn Smith is for ND, just a freak.

Neither MSU or OSU get him
December 10th, 2015 at 1:23 PM ^
Their 3 projected starting linebackers this year were all ranked in the 500s to 600s. (If Ed Davis had been healthy). Davis, Bullough, Harris. It's sort of moot - they develop good LBs annually no matter the rank.

December 10th, 2015 at 2:02 PM ^
Most overhyped recruit in the last 5 years. Dude did ZERO to earn his rating. Jimmy was smart to stay away from this one. My guess is he is done playing football by his junior year.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:19 PM ^
It doesn't matter at all how fast or big the guy is. If he has almost zero durability and can't stay on the field, what does it matter?
December 10th, 2015 at 2:39 PM ^
The question is how many games he'll actually play for them.
December 10th, 2015 at 2:56 PM ^
Daelin Hayes is big, fast, and strong... when healthy. He went right through this Saline lineman in their 9/11/2015 game. Skyline stayed close until Hayes left with an injury. When he left, Skyline's confidence and swagger left, and they got rolled by Saline.
