Maryland to fire Edsall
It looks like Maryland will fire Edsall going into the Bye week after Ohio State. Maybe the players will send him out with a bang and upset OSU, or they'll lose by 50. It'll be interesting to see who they target as their next coach.

This would be very curious if Illinois had not already amazed us all by doing it right before the season started. Maybe they have a coordinator that is more competent than Edsall to step in, otherwise, I assume this will not be good. Amazingly though, Flood still has a job. If anyone was going to get shown the door, I assumed it was him.

I actually like it when teams celebrate like they won the championship after beating Michigan. No matter how bad Michigan is, teams will always celebrate like that after beating us.
October 8th, 2015 at 11:30 AM ^
but I still get a bit pissed when I see Rutgers rush the field for beating us

That's why Michigan never take an opponent lightly because we're their super bowl for the year.

Or when the celebrate like they won the championship after we commit a personal foul.

It was sarcasm. He was pissed about bad officiating most of the day. I know Mich fans don't like it, but it was a pretty good way of jamming the officials. I expect if Jim H did it in response to shitty calls, a lot of us would love it.

Thanks!

He will always be Hopping Pat to me after that day. "Hey Pat, how's it hopping?"
October 8th, 2015 at 12:57 PM ^
if they treated beating us like beating Minnesota. That's the path were were on, so thank goodness we never got there.
October 8th, 2015 at 2:01 PM ^
Agreed. It's a bad day when we no longer matter.
One of the lowest points in recent Michigan football history was when Ohio State was dominating us at Columbus (2010 I think) and the camera panned the Buckeye crowd . . . and they were yawning.
It meant nothing special to beat us.

we beat a 5-7 team

I hate even thinking about last year. They acted like they won a NC.

justy sayin.

Holy shit, wouldn't that be something?
October 8th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
It would be tremendous.
October 8th, 2015 at 11:28 AM ^
Seriously, that would not be a bad fit.

Maryland doesn't like fat coaches.
October 8th, 2015 at 12:07 PM ^
One would think they've learned their lesson after getting rid of Friedgen.
October 8th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
He was winning and taking them to bowl games.
Then they got all full of themselves and forgot that they are freaking Maryland and fired him becuse they thought they deserved something else.
Well, they got what they deserved.

now at 68 years old and may not have the energy, but I like him. I live across the Potomac from Maryland and would see him on the local TV during his press conferences. All around decent person and better than competent coach who did good things with an underachieving program.
He got a raw deal there.
October 8th, 2015 at 12:50 PM ^
He's not fat, he's big boned. A beefcake, if you will...
October 8th, 2015 at 12:59 PM ^
Ralph Friedgen was rather fat.
And successful!!!!!!!!!

Are Bruce Coslet, Rich Kotite, Norv Turner, and Charlie Weis not available?

I'm hoping to see Hoke become a killer DL coach somewhere (NFL or college). We had some close call recruiting losses on the DL in recent years, with Hand, McDowell, etc., and still he left Harbaugh with an unbelievable line. Mattison and Durkin deserve credit, too, but it's one of the few areas from the last coaching staff where talent identification and/or development was outstanding.

I'm not sure if it is that big a step down for him. As head coach, he could not resist getting involved in the D-Line coaching and said as much several times.
He should already be set for life financially if he has any kind of even remotely competent investment advisor. As a D-Line coach at a top school, he could do pretty well and do what he likes doing.
If Mattison retires and Hoke wants to come back here as D-Line coach, I would definitely take him.

I would be ecstatic if after Mattison retires, Hoke came back to coach our D-line. That would be tremendous, though it'll never happen. He was just in way over his head as the head coach here, but his chops as a d-line guru cannot be denied.
