Did they put someone in for mop up time? I wasn't paying attention by then. Too busy watching Jax St. try to lose to Auburn.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:41 PM ^
in the victory formation at the end of the game. Morris was dressed and on the sidelines, but didn't enter the game.
September 12th, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
Trying and succeeding... that game WAS excting enough to lure me away from garbage time. So missed Speight taking a knee apparently? That was Rudock who threw a pick with about 3 mins or so left right?
September 12th, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
I don't think there's that much strategy in it. I think Harbaugh will play the best QB regardless of class, and if Shane isn't the #2, it may be in his best interest to transfer if he wants to play. And I doubt he's the only one in that situation. With so many QBs on the roster, its only a matter of time before they start transferring out.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
How does that affect the decision to redshirt someone?
September 12th, 2015 at 4:16 PM ^
Harbaugh: Shane's the no. 2 quarterback. Not going to play Shane in that position because he's in his junior year and has played 2 years.

surprise me. I think it's his best chance. Develop this year without the pressure of worrying about playing time.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
And that's a big IF...he redshirts.
And IF he's on track to graduate in May.
He could compete with O'Korn and if he lost...he could grad transfer and have 2 years of eligibility AND not sit out a year. Or if he wins...then 2 years at Michigan.
Smart move IF.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
We are on the same wavelength. It would allow immediate transfer and 2 years eligibility - see below.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:58 PM ^
For Shane, RS would be a win/win if he on track to graduate early.
He can compete for the starting position in the spring and if he loses, he can just transfer and play two years for the new team. If he wins the starting job, he has two years as a starting QB under Harbaugh to get ready for NFL.
If Harbaugh offered RS, I would take it if I was Morris.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
Devil's advocate - Shane might not have a future at UM and Harbaugh is not going to destroy 1 more year of his career if he transfers and allow him 2 yrs somewhere else.
Not saying that is the case but saying we hhave no idea what the case is.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
See how he does developing over the course of the season and decide which situation applies. Either way it may be smart to try to redshirt him this year unless Rudock is injured.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
I hope we'll have a lot of mop-up time vs. UNLV.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
Didn't Speight already redshirt last year?

Morris redshirt? I have a feeling they would have put Morris, if they needed a QB for extended period of time. With victory formation, what is the point. I take this as a positive on Morris. They don't want to blow his potential RS. So, they still value Morris. I don't know if I am reading too much into it.
We will know next week. We should be having backups play most of the second half. We will see.
September 12th, 2015 at 4:33 PM ^
It was a chance for Speight to see the field. There's no reason to put Morris out there for that if he was truly contending to start. I'd be shocked if they have any plans to redshirt Morris. I'd bet anything that if Rudock had to come out for one play early in the game, Morris would have come in.

Maybe he made a deal with Harbaugh. If Jake goes down to significant injury, Shane will takeover as QB. If not, he'll retain his eligibility via the redshirt and transfer after the season.
Keep your options open.

Might want to look at the last play of the game. Speight came in for the hand off but Morris took the knee to end the game. I'm not 100 % sure, if someone could check on that please.

You might be right, but everyone agrees that Shane has the physical abilities needed to be a great player, and we also agree that Harbaugh is a QB guru. An extra year with Harbaugh would certainly help his development.

You both are kinda right.
An extra year under Harbaugh WILL help him. Probably not in AA though. If he graduates as expected he would be able to transfer with having two season of elligability. A guy with his arm, mobility & a year with Harbaugh he would get some interest. A couple years with a MAC team, or another non Power-5 conference team that loves to throw bombs might not be a bad thing for him.
September 13th, 2015 at 1:12 AM ^
Grady was completely misused. He should have been a star. Maybe the Lions should sign him. He'd show how it was just Fred Jackson not being able to coach. I know he's got it!
(THAT is how you do sarcasm. It is a damn shame though... Maybe he was used too much in High school.)
September 12th, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
We'll lose games 3 years from now and people will still be lamenting how we wouldn't be in that position if we'd just started Shane in 2014 and 2015. Results be damned, did you see how many stars he had?!?
