Tailgate options on gameday
Greetings, MGoBoard.
My buddy and I will be in town for the UNLV game. I haven't been back to The Big House since I was a kid, so I'm coming to you guys for advice.
What are the best spots for tailgating near the stadium? We obviously aren't looking for anything with a season pass. Just somewhere to plop down a couple of camper chairs, a cooler and a portable grill for a few hours.
Thanks.

Plopping down with some coolers and a grill on Hill or State is not ideal considering it's frat central... aka you won't get any relaxation tailgating going.
It's going to be a lot more crazy music fun time.

I'd try to set up on that area on the western side of the property bordered by Seventh and Stadium. Usually, when I walk through there on the way to the game there is plenty of room and it's all grass which is very nice. They have porta-johns there too and the lines usually aren't that long.

Park at one of the many yards across from Shembechler hall and you can set up with no hassles. Plus the most you will pay is $25 anywhere, also easy in easy out.

I used to park at the high school but the last couple of years have used the golf course. Try to be early to either one. At the high school there's a good chance you end up on pavement (depends what your plan are....more fon throwing a ball around on grass). If you're going to use the golf course, you can guarantee a spot by paying in advance (parknparty.com).
Cheers

And your own tailgating.
Oregon State rented the tennis clubhouse for 400 folks this year so there could be some good banter.

There are two, actually:
The U of M Golf Course, further back you are the more chill it is.
The Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club, is the one right at the corner of Stadium and Main... is drunk fest central.
But as a former and current student, and now townie for 3-4 years... there are some hidden gems that not a lot of people seem to know about. I'm talking like within 2-3 blocks of the stadium, with completely free street parking depending on what time you get there... I actually prefer them even over the golf courses (which we will still hit up maybe 1-2 times per season for nostalgia).

I forgot to mention that there are two Golf Courses.
Uof M Golf Course (beside and south of Ann Arbor Golf and Outing ($40 cash at the gate usually)
Ann Arbor Golf and Outing - across the street from the stadium ($50 cash at the gate or if you book in advance online $45 plus a $7.25 convenience fee)
I usually park at AAGO and have never really been parked beside a drunkfest (you might if you get there too early)

the cost and how easy it is to get out after the game. The golf course is more expensive and will take more time to get out. But it's very nice. Pioneer isn't cheap either but has some nicer areas on the property to park where there is grass (like the western side along Stadium/Seventh. Much of the rest is kind of an asphalt jungle and pretty crowded.
I like the free options myself, where you park along a public side street near a nice park. These options might entail a bit more walking, but can make for a great experience too. Two good options are Greenview Park (further) and Allmendinger Park (very close).

I went through Park n Party at the Golf course! I tailgated on the golf course before, and it was a good time!
Question for the board:
it says no, charcoal grills, yet when I was there, its what we used. does anybody know if we can use grills?!?!?
