OT: ESPN now covering WWE
It's been a long time coming.
Former WWE announcer and backstage interviewer The Coach is the man covering WWE.

They need to take a page out of the TSN playbook and give the coolest game on earth some adequate coverage.

While I understand it's not for everyone, it has a huge following. If you don't watch it now, I guarantee you watched it at one point in your life or know someone who did.
Wrestling is one of the American art forms. Like Jazz Music.

I'm not saying it is a sport at all, it's entertainment with athletic guys and girls. I wouldn't expect sports center to break down the card and give a tale of the tape between the Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. That's stupid.
I guess I don't see why it's a big deal that they are doing guest appearances for something that will be one of the most viewed and talked about things on social media tonight.
ESPN covers competitive eating, video games, dance competitions, and the list goes on and on... Two days a year (Wrestlemania and Summerslam) are fine on sportscenter. It's better than live reports from Tebow's attempt as a 3rd string quarterback, or a breakdown of LeBron's last poop.

I am with you Mr. Stamos! I am a wrestling fan also and you just made a lot of the points I was about to make so I will just ecpand upon what you have already wrote.
Let us not forget that the "E" in both ESPN & WWE stand for entertainment. They are both headquartered in CT. Also The Coach is not the only former WWE employe to work for ESPN as Todd Grisham is a WWE alum as well. Last but not least I am sure many of us remember watching old AWA & WCCW wrestling after school on ESPN back in the day.
As far as why I still watch as a late 30 something is completely different than as a child, teenager, or even young adult. I like the to break down crowd reactions, call out the botches or missed lines, and to see if I can correctly call the storyline progression.
Of course everybody say it with me, "It's only $9.99"

Maybe ESPN should start broadcasting cartoons. I guarantee you watched them at one point in your life, after all.

I almost feel like we're getting back to that point where wrestling is cool again. It comes back every 10-15 years.

Maybe they'll start covering broadway too. Choreographed fight scenes? Damn, ESPN. You better send some folks to cover West Side Story.
I take nothing away from WWE, but they're not a sport. And as the other poster noted, it's a sad day when they choose to cover this and not the NHL. I suppose I cannot fault ESPN for chasing the money, but I wish there were fewer Dave Brandon's in the world. You can only dilute your product so much before it becomes unrecognizable and loses what made it awesome in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from. But how is this different from the 2 hour shows of fantasy football line ups on Sunday mornings... Let's be real here - ESPN is a joke in general.

I think the thing we're all agreeing on here is that ESPN is a joke.

The Rock is one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood.
Ronda Rousey has said multiple times that she will end up in the WWE.
All it takes is a little push and it's off and running again.

August 23rd, 2015 at 12:54 PM ^
this would bother me, but I can't remember the last time I had that channel on anyhow. Big time sports today is basically a freak show anyhow, so covering something as ridiculously bogus as WWE is just a tacit admission of that fact.

I've been done with ESPN outside of football for years.
Its sad as I used to love them back in the 90s.
No offense to wrestling fans, but this is stupid beyond words.

While their competitors are bringing on soccer, which continues to draw strong interest, ESPN brings on the WWE.

Except the Hollywood actors aren't doing stunts, nor are they taking bumps every night.
You can't fake a chairshot. Or a back body drop onto a canvas which is akin to jumping off your couch and landing flat on your back on a hardwood or cement floor.

2. TNA sucks so bad... You can't use that as an example... That's like using MAC football as using an example of how football should be played.

Ok. Here's a WWE gif. Better?
August 23rd, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Adrian Neville - Red Arrow
Sami Zayn - Tornado DDT through the Ropes.
Cesaro - Neutralizer on Mark Henry (Listed at 418)
August 23rd, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
This is akin to jumping off your house and landing on a table.
Foley's tooth went up through his lip and into his nose due to this
The guy in your gif, Scott Rechsteiner, is a Michigan alum. He and his brother Rick both wrestled at Michigan and wore their varsity jackets to matches.
August 23rd, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
So a dude jumped 20 feet onto a table and fucked his face up in the process. I guess I just don't see how that's entertaining or interesting at all. It's just fucking stupid to me.
