Is gonna be what they wanted AJ Hawk to be.
August 14th, 2015 at 12:57 AM ^
I'd have to say he is likely smarter and makes better decisions based entirely upon his decion on which college to attend.

Your mom goes to college.

I don't know what AJ Hawk's options were for college, but Jake Ryan didn't have the options to go to OSU so it's hard to say that his college decision was smarter than AJ's since they had different options.

I think Graham Glasgow came in under RR, but might have been a walk-on.
August 14th, 2015 at 11:10 AM ^
he would have run out of eligibilty last season then wouldnt he? Ryan was a redshirt senior and glasgow is a RS senior this season so Graham would have had to start a year after Jake which would be hoke's 1st season. RR could have recruited him though

There are about 4 guys competing to be the main backups. Ryan seemed to get the most time, so they were taking a long look.
August 14th, 2015 at 10:17 AM ^
This is correct unless JMFR shows that he can be a star. They would rather keep Matthews on the outside but are reportedly still splitting his time between inside and outside this year because they don't have a good enough 2nd inside linebacker to justify not playing Matthews there after how well he played last year.

It basically comes down to the fact that, right now, Nick Perry is better than Jake Ryan. If that changes, Matthews will move back outside and Jake will start.

Ladies and gentlemen, this guy (Jake) is pretty much the 2010 recruiting class: https://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/commitments/2010/…
D'oh.
Anyone heard anything about Furman?
2011 is looking pretty ugly, too, by the NFL measure.
August 14th, 2015 at 10:35 AM ^
Unless Devin Gardner latches on somewhere else, Jake Ryan might be the only guy on that list w/a shot at sticking long-term in the NFL. (Did Hagerup ever latch on w/a team in training camp via free agency?) Furman was drafted late by the Broncos -- he might have a shot to make the roster if he can show his worth on special teams. Marvin Robinson got a look w/the Cowboys in training camp last year, but I'm not sure what happened to him.
Even if you drop the standard from "Got a cup of coffee in the NFL" to "Was a solid starter or contributor at UM", that class looks bad in hindsight: Gardner, poor guy (what might've been?); Ryan; Jibreel Black, Courtney Avery, and Drew Dileo were also decent contributors at various points; Hagerup was good when he had his head on straight ... Stephen Hopkins, maybe. And that's pretty much it. Seven guys, if you're generous, out of 27.
Thank God we're putting that era of UM football behind us. HARBAUGH!

Once he'd cleared the waiver wire, Pittsburgh put Devin on their IR list (injury "undisclosed"). They gave him enough time in the game that they were clearly looking at him, and whether the drops were related to already being injured, or he injured himself or aggravated something in the earlier passes (which were strongly defended and/or not catchable), they must have seen enough in practice to hold on to him for the future.

The hardest thing I ever had to do as a sports fan was watch Charles Woodson play for that sack-of-shit franchise.

and earn a Super Bowl ring, a DPOY, and revival of his career. Must've been rough.

But in all seriousness, this is awesome. All he did here at Michigan was make plays. Hope he carves out s long, successful NFL career.
