Little Michigan man on the way. Gift ideas?
I believe we received the "princess" version. Highly recommmend you put that on the registry. It still mezmerizes our 6 month old and, more importantly, gives us a psuedo baby sitter for the occasional half-hour.
I was also going to suggest this or the MET. You and your wife can pick out all the clothes and M stuff that you like, but may not be a bad idea if people are in the giving mood to give some cash towards his college costs at Michigan. In addition, contributions maybe state tax deductible - please contact your tax advisor.
UM Diaper Bag. UM clothes (3 different sizes as they grow out of stuff so fast) and blankets. UM hat and socks. Baby's need socks and hats as they get cold. If you're a bit chilly, they're probably cold. Lots and lots of cloth diapers to wipe up the constant stream of baby upchuck. UM pacifier. You don't need toys really until they're 6 months or so and they can intentionally grab things.
Protip #1: Kids love books. See if you can find any UM kids books. Chances are your child will really really like a certain book for you to read as a bedtime story. My son always wanted me to read "Goodnight Moon" to him 348 times a day.
Protip #2: Don't be "that family" that takes their kid out in public, restaurant etc, and acts like nothing is going on while their kid screams bloody murder for 3 hours literally ruining the afternoon for everyone around you
I approve of this thread.
DSLR and portrait lens. These are not the kind of pics you want to be taking with a phone.

Once your kid can comfortably hold his head up while wearing them, you can take him to Michigan games without worrying about noise. Our first son went to his first Michigan football game at 6 months. He's now 2 and has been to 2 (maybe 3?) Michigan football games and roughly 6 Michigan basketball games. He also wears them to parades and concerts, and they work great. I've lost track of the number of times we've seen other parents have to take their cowering children out of loud events in tears while our son happily stays wearing those things.
My little wolverines are nearing their first and third birthdays, and I have to say I've really wanted to get them stuff from the MGoStore. Seriously, Brian et al, you're missing a great opportunity here! Onesies are super cheap -- screen print some Michigan stuff on it and this thread certainly indicates there would be plenty of demand for that. Although my three year old definitely is rocking a "Worst State Ever" T-shirt, much to the chagrin of my Cleveland-based in-laws.
a couple years ago and managed to get a 'Space Bitches Space" in 24 month size. It is on kid #2 and will be saved for kid #3. We also sport the toddler sized Worst State Ever shirt and Cue the Muppets shirt. Works for both boys and girls.
1) M-den has onesies for boys that are light blue and have a silk screened maize n blue tie with a block M on it. Got it for my son and avoided having to dress him in crappy Baby Gap formal wear for months when we'd go to church or a party or something.
2) A kids M book. You're going to be reading to him at night for a long time, and while the writing style of Jim Brandstatter is good to put dad to sleep, not so much for baby moving into toddler. I always liked the "Michigan 101" board book at M-Den and other places on campus. It's got pages dedicated to different things abotu campus (including a page on the sports teams) and then the back two pages are the complete words (include preambles) to both The Victors and Maize and Blue. Great lullabys even if you suck at singing. And you'll sing, trust me.
