OT: Summer vacationing in Michigan
Looking to the board for help planning a summer vacation up to Michigan. My folks live in Michigan and are now in their 70s. Rather than our usual visit which mostly involves me, my wife, and the kids sitting around my parents' home, I'd like to plan something a bit different this year.
My sister and her kids also have families, so am looking to find a large home or some place with enough room for up 14 people to stay for a weekend. Some place near the water, beach with lots of family friendly activities for young and old would be ideal. Ideally looking for very specific advice, a town, a place to rent, things we can do.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I live in Colorado but grew up in Grand Haven, As a kid my Grandmother had a cottage on Platte Lake, near Beulah/Frankfort, so I loved the Sleeping Bear area. When my kids were little, we rented cottages on Glen Lake a couple of times and it was absolutely fantastic. Then one year we got a cottage in Grand Haven during Coast Guard Festival. My kids loved it, and liked hanging around the town as well as the beach. Not to mention Fricano's Pizza, Rockpiles at the Dairy Treat and Pronto Pups! So we've done more cottages there, and always have a great time.
Either way is great by me.
West side is the best side. MGoWife and I always come back to Michigan in August. Check out Grand Haven's Coast Guard Festival July 24 to August 2nd.
Sleeping Bear is great too.
Might be too late to find something great for this year.

Port Austin. It's at the tip of the Thumb. Very nice small town. Lots to do. Small town feel. Caseville not that far away. Awesome farmers market every Saturday that takes up the entire downtown. People from Detroit are just finding out about this town. Hidden gem.

Forget about it. It's freezing up there in summer.
