He was also in Ghostbusters as... a cop.

They have been planning on this for a while, and will take a RB with the 1st round pick. Probably Melvin Gordon or the guy from Nebraska.

Actually, I forgot about Riddick.
They'll probably just take best available, which is hopefully a LB or DB.

I hope Riddick can turn into mini-Darren Sproles. I think he's shown the ability. Where I'm concerned is Bell. He fumbles too much and despite being the "big back" in the offense, he doesn't seem to run with much ferocity unless it's late in the game and the D is gassed (ie. Chicago game on Thanksgiving). I hope the Lions remember it's a passing league now and don't spend a first round pick on a RB. OL and CB are much more pressing needs.

Darren Sproles? Riddick has about 3 inches and 10 lbs over the little mini-mite. But I understand what you are saying.

1 lost, 5 fumbles on 235 rushes. Average fumble rate in the NFL last season including all players was 3.7% according to this. Someone probably has an advanced metric or something, but this was a quick google. .
EDIT: That looks misleading. Sorting by position puts him very far down the list for RBs. No other RB had more than 4 fumbles. It was just FLUCK that only one was lost.

Smart move. He isn't a bad running back though, he'll be serviceable somewhere else. Just no need with Bell and Riddick.

Smart Business Move. Very very very talented played but he couldn't stay healthy. He was positive for the city and this team. I hope he gets a shot with another squad. Hello Theo Riddick playing time.

up cap space to Franchise Suh. Although I understand cutting ties with Reggie, they basically have a carbon copy of him in Theo Riddick, who is younger and cheaper.
February 25th, 2015 at 5:36 PM ^
Franchising Suh might not be a horrible idea. This team has probably a two year window to win a Super Bowl, and he would be a necessary piece. A long term deal with Suh would probably kill this window for the franchise.

Riddick was more than serviceable out of the backfield anyways. Decent hands too. Bell did great in short and mid-yardage situations. He's also a vocal, inspirational team captain.
For a team who passes the ball a ton, someone had to go. I also felt like Bush could've played in some games last year while returning from his injury. Kind of pissed me off after a while.

Not sure what his cap hit would be this year; however, that money can be better spent locking up Suh. Honestly, I believe we don't miss a beat. Am I the only one that noticed Bush dropped a lot of clutch/crucial passes while Riddick made a significant amount of clutch/crucial catches and plays? I like the move....Reggie will be just fine.

guy was our best back, most explosive. i understand the business side of it, and i like our other backs, but if i only got to pick one, he'd be it.

he has an inspiring story about coming from wayne state. he's more powerful too.
that said, he's concussion prone and not as fast, elusive or spectacular as bush, and bush is a better receiver and doesn't miss his blocking assignments as much, at least what i saw.
