SI hack Rosenberg gets thoroughly fisked
Noted hack writer Michael Rosenberg wrote a hit-piece against the Patriots over "deflategate" that was complete crap writing (though what would one expect from Rosenberg, right?). It was noticed by a sportswriter in Boston, who wrote a very funny and thorough fisking of the whole thing, which I'd encourage you to read it here if you want a laugh to brighten your day. My favorite quote from the fisk piece is this:
This is stupid. This is lazy. This is irresponsible “journalism” from Sports Illustrated. This should not be published, period.
EDIT: to make it clear, here's the link to the fisking, in case you missed it in my text paragraph above: LINK I'm not linking to Rosenberg because eff that guy.

South Detroit was meant to be "Southfield" -- even though that's north of Detroit.

Why can't we enjoy a piece of garbage getting what he deserves? Rosenberg continues to violate pretty much the entire code of ethics for the Society of Professional Journalists, but still makes money as a "journalist." He deserves every bad thing that can happen to him.

Ah, but you see, he's not reporting news in this instance, but writing an opinion column. Therefore, it's not subject to the same journalistic code as he would if he were actually reporting news in an objective manner. See, he can skirt the rules, too.

That's not how grudges work, Bando.

Not gon be able to do it.

If you ever need a laugh read the Amazon reviews for his book. I think I read somewhere that he cried because of the reviews he got.

It's hilarious

Good. His whole career seems to be based off speculation, shoddy journalism, and just being a dick.
January 20th, 2015 at 1:54 PM ^
and at one level I totally agree with you. But then again, bad journalism is bad wherever it may be published, and it is nice to see that bad journalism that flees one jurisdiction finds no refuge in another.

I don't have to forgive him if he hasn't said sorry. I don't think he's said sorry yet.

till you brought it up. Like many of us it really hit me in the gut when THAT first came out; how he could be so...so...I felt a very viseral anger towards him for what he did and how it affected the program. Now that time has past
No, I'm still pretty much as pissed now as I was then. Seriously. I'm not one for scorn but I think that's what I feel.
By the way I didn't neg you, I respect your opinion. Just not his.

when he does something that reinforces it.

Couldn't disagree more, Bando. Mr. Rosenberg, a fellow alum, did an absolute hack job on his alma mater for personal gain. That personal gain got him his gig at Sports Illustrated. Which, good for him. However, until such time as I have dementia and can no longer remember what Rosenberg did, I will never, ever do anything to support him or the Detroit Free Press (for publishing that garbage), though admittedly, my grudge against Rosenberg is more resolute. Rosenberg completely, utterly screwed up the facts of a story, got Michigan charged with NCAA violations as a result, never understood the term "countable hour," had a vendetta against RR from the get-go (see, e.g., "Three and Out" where it discusses it, and yes, I believe what is said in that book about Rosenberg; it makes way too much sense not to be true, especially given the contrast between what Rosenberg reported and what the NCAA investigation actually found), and should be ashamed of himself for that awful article. If Rosenberg showed contrition, I might be able to let it slide. . . someday. But, to my knowledge, he believes he was in the right. He wasn't. He was self-interested and shat on his alma mater. For that, he can fuck himself from here until the day he dies.

But, seriously, fuck Michael Rosenberg as a writer and Michigan alumnus. This wasn't like he uncovered Watergate going on at U of M; quite the contrary. His reporting was almost entirely incorrect.

Possibly the best response to your own double post, ever. As a matter of fact, this should be the default text to fill an accidental double post.

There's nothing to get over. It's a really good read that just happens to trash someone who hurt the Michigan program. Why not enjoy it?

They will bury the MGoBlog server with this Rosenberg ax sticking out of it.
But honestly, it's the internet, and Rosenberg is still a hack. Just because he failed "up" to a dying magazine from a dying newspaper doesn't absolve him of shittiness or being worthy of scorn.
January 20th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
a blown load doesn't know the difference between countable and non-countable hours.
On top of that, he's a whiny little bitch. Fuck him.
January 20th, 2015 at 5:14 PM ^
If the stain of his specious reporting and the harm inflcited have made way to another market, I'll consider it. But not bloody likely.

I had intentionally left the Rosenberg link out of my post to not give that buffoon any traffic from us, and the fisking response is linked in the body of my text where it says "read it here." But I will edit my OP to make the link more clear.

Woops, sorry about that. Need to get my eyes checked out, apparently.

I came across this site the other day: http://www.donotlink.com/
It allows you to link to a page you'd rather not support without that link affecting the page's standing in search engines (I think). The page still gets whatever marginal benefit from the extra views, but presumably that benefit is fairly small.

For anyone who wasn't paying close attention back then, this is the same journalist (along with current Freep writer, Mark Snyder) who brought about the NCAA investigation of the Mich football program through his irresponsible reporting.

Oh yeah. I actually do wish S1 were here on this topic, because I'm right there with him. I'm still mad, and will always be mad, about what Rosenberg did, which was disloyal, misguided, selfish, and misinformed.

why Snyder still gets and has always gotten normal access to the basketball program? why isnt he blackballed?

grudges for a long time. Way longer than most people. Rosenberg can rot in hell.
January 20th, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
I don't hold grudges normally. . . yet I'm holding this one still, and will, for as long as I have a brain that functions. Or perhaps until I get a heartfelt, teary-eyed apology to the Michigan community from Rosenberg. . . although, to be honest, so much time has passed that it would probably be too little, too late. If he was going to do that, he should've done it and issued a retraction sometime around when the NCAA came out with its findings, which make Rosenberg's story look like 95% pure fiction. Fuck that guy.
January 20th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
The Freep just hires morons. We need to get passed this and move on from Rosenberg and The Freep in general. Drew Sharp is my biggest rival. Can't stand that dude.
