Champions Classic Open Thread: Sparty (Weird Guys) vs Duke, Now...Kansas vs Kentucky (9:00 ET)
Not much else to say. Should be some good basketball played tonight (well, maybe not good as it's early season, but entertaining). Not that we should root for them but seeing Duke annhilate Sparty tonight would make for an enjoyable evening...amirite?!
The better of the two games in my opinion will be the KU-UK game; two very talented rosters (Duke is loaded as well).
Go Blue!

Okafor on the bench with four fouls...

Duke should be up by 20.
State's offense is a trainwreck.

I've watched this about fifteen times in a row now and I get more and more pissed by the first clip and then laugh louder and louder each time on the second clip.

Don't get used to all the whistles blown on MSU. In Big Ten play, you aren't going to hear them.

I was just going to say I'm glad State's defensive "strategy" of fouling people isn't being allowed by the refs.

Wow and this is without Okafor; I thought this was Sparty's best chance to get back into the game

What did they say?
I had to mute them in the 2nd half...a man can only take so much.

State's offense is effectively brick the initial shot so horribly that it will bounce out of the reach of the defender boxing out for an offensive rebound and putback.

Msu looking bad
Particularly in the paint both ends.
Not a traditional msu team. Might be a long season for sparty.

And this infinity commercial is stupid

Uhhh, Dickie V, Duke's freshman have looked pretty much like freshman on the defensive side of the ball, particularly in their rotations.

would, hooray Moral victory!

don't look like 'early out' is in the cards for them this year

Is it just me or is State's non-conference schedule a joke this year?
November 18th, 2014 at 9:23 PM ^
We play Duke, Georgia Tech or Marquette, Tennessee or Kansas and @ Notre Dame. Not our strongest non-con schedule but I wouldn't say it's a joke.

Yea, gotta factor in a few that aren't listed, likewise with us, that are tournament games.
November 18th, 2014 at 9:07 PM ^
could be something we could take advantage of when we meet.

although i was definitely surprised that they were completely unable to take advantage of okafor going out. they seem like legit contenders for the big ten, and will probably be better than they were last year.
November 18th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
I see nothing to suggest that Sparty will be better than they were last year.

Despite every bounce going Staee's way, not rebounding a lick and having no transition defense, Duke beat an experienced top 15 team by double-digits. And it should've been more.

Jahlil Okafor would be a top 4 skilled center in the NBA? Embarrassing, Stephen A. Smith, just embarrassing.
Al Jefferson, Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol, Boogie Cousins, Tim Duncan (yes, he is a goddamn center), Chris Bosh...need I say more.
Dude is supposed to be a basketball expert? Get out.
November 18th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
Yeah it's incredible that idiots like Smith actually get paid to spout nonsense like that.

One loss and ESPN is already talking about how Michigan State isn't healthy. Give me a break.
November 18th, 2014 at 9:30 PM ^
November 18th, 2014 at 9:21 PM ^
Announcers are still talking about MSU injuries! One announcer just tried to validate State's loss by calling their squad "depleted", then backed this assertion up by listing three guys I had never heard of as being injured or playing with a soft cast. C'mon guys, it's a sport, people get hurt.
Also, Dawson coming back is a gift worth more than the health of their entire bench.
(From a purely basketball perspective obviously, never wish poor health on anyone, despite the awful school they play for...)

I thought the second game was supposed to start at 9? My cable cut out so I'm just waiting on a stream, anyone know what the deal is?
November 18th, 2014 at 9:28 PM ^
It's on the same court, so there's 20 minutes or so inbetween games for warmups. Game will start in a couple minutes.
November 18th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
Delayed due to later finish of MSU game.

And a solid 5-0 win for the Wings
