What's next
First the football season in general, then Saturday's embarrassing events (I hope you're well Shane), Trey's twitter situation, Phelps in trouble, Brady looking like, well, like he should start at Michigan right now... I'm scared to do, attend, watch, read, anything about anything Michigan sports.
Yeesh.
Thank goodness it was and still is the best damn degree in the world.

fast. Haven't people been talking about wearing red to a game?

Morris incident is being blown out of proportion. He came in the game and handed the ball off once. I'm glad we fought the Revolutionary War when we did. This is weak, but it's really about W's and L's and Hoke needs to go for that reason.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:13 PM ^
If the "Morris incident" was isolated to Saturday, and if the mea culpas and explanations of what really happened were given Monday morning with the entire athletic department in agreement (from AD to trainers and doctors), then yes, I would agree with you.
As always, however, the coverup was worse than the crime.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:16 PM ^
If anything, it's finally being blown into proportion. One can be incompetent while still having the best intentions, and that seems to be the case from the football program all the way to the top of the athletic department.

I love these stupid hypothetical situations people always bring up to provide a straw man counter argument that doesn't exist.
It's like every time you see a white cop shooting a black person and the other side's arguement always boils down to "what about black on black crime?"
NO JUST STOP. It has absolutely 0000000 to do with the current situation and assuming shit. If OSU can fire Tressel for Tattoogate, I'm sure UM would have disciplined Hoke for something if we did have a better record...
But just like all hypotheticals, it's not even worth talking about. What is this an ESPN or CNN comment section?
Cmon Man!

If it was really just about the losses, there'd be a 10 year old protester shantytown in front of the POTUM's house. Michigan has been sucking for some time now.

and Hoke were successful this would have been less and issue isn't saying much. It's one of a series of botched calls that it's completely legit have added up, and make a damning case for his dismissal.

and Hoke were successful this would have been less and issue isn't saying much. It's one of a series of botched calls that it's completely legit have added up, and make a damning case for his dismissal. And the kid WAS placed at risk. The blame for that lies with all the people on the sideline, but the buck is supposed to stop with Hoke. As many have said, a simple early apology would have stopped the thing in its tracks.

Notice how the 2014 meme had nothing to do with on-field football games? Signing Peppers was the biggest win of 2014 for Football.

Optimism around here has never really been a function of what transpires on the field. In fact most of the time it's in spite of it.

Not sure what to make of this fiasco. Am I happy that it's distracting me from just how reprehensibly horrible Michigan's offense was last Saturday? Or am I sad that it's clouding everyone's focus from just that?
Poor Hoke. Nice guy, just in way over his head. I hope the next coach keeps him as the D line coach ala Fickel.

Really? Because the DL wasn't very good last year and it's slightly better this year without Hoke coaching it.

I happen to personally know the University of Michigan reporter for the Ann Arbor News and he just posted on Facebook something along the lines of "Changes coming? Stay tuned..." in the context of everything that happened today.

If Twitter had a roof, it blew off and is still flying into the 16th dimension when DB tweeted about Field Hockey literally 5 minutes after that horseshit release came out.
You should read the tweets he gets. They're hilarious.

Check my post re "Hoke and ESPN Personality share Agent"
In sum, Lebatard said that his agent, who is Brady Hoke's agent, can't work on Dan's currently expired contract till the agent fixes Hoke's contract. Listen to 12:30 of Part 1 of 30 September podcast, the local hour.
Very interesting tid-bit released today and just confirms what we all know- Change is coming, a matter of when.

Think he loves doing what he's doing and, even after he hangs up his whistle, don't think he wants to be a high-profile AD, but I think he'd do an amazing job.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:25 PM ^
doesn't get hotter and if the embarassing stories showing Michigan, the Administrator, the coaches and the Program in a poor light don't continue, this will all die without and changes coming forth.
Brandon will hunker down and make no public comments. Hoke will fake talk about football against Rutgers and if he is lucky Michigan doesn't get embarassed on the field on Saturday.
My greatest fear is that Brandon will still be the AD when November arrives. If that happens then the chances of getting another AD, firing Hoke and finding a way to lure Jim Harbaugh here die in a small pile of smoldering ashes.
If Brandon stays, this program will sink to even lower lows and more empty seats will appear on Saturdays.
The number one way to hurt Brandon and make him vulnerable to see empty seats on Saturdays. If there were only 75-80,000 for the National nightgame for Penn State, that would send a HUGE message.
If the number of empty seats grows to obvious numbers where the AD can't hide them, the Administration will be forced to act because those empty seats will eventually take money away from the University itself as the Athletic Dept gives money to the University each year, But they can't if they are losing money when tickets don't sell and concessions aren't purchased.
The stadium seating is the number one way to affect Brandon's status.

I'm actually strangely looking forward to the Rutgers game. We are going to learn some interesting things about Michigan football on Saturday. Possibly horrifying, terrible things: but interesting.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:36 PM ^
I agree. At the end of the day it's football, man. It's winged helmets playing football. I am going to get a growler, watch it with some friends and just try to enjoy watching Michigan play football and not think about the Big Ten championship or anything. We only get 13 (or 12) of these a year.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:37 PM ^
So there is actually hope. His statement was finally the grownup in the room, and he has now set standards by which he will judge Brandon. This is the last thing Brandon could have wanted. Key pieces of his statement:
- Disappointed in the aftermath of the game - he clearly sees what happened during the game as the easily fixable problem. It is the Hoke-Brandon statement circus that has him pissed.
- Vows that communication will be transparent, timely, etc. Total shot at Brandon.
- Demand that Brandon provide him with a detailed report, that Schlissel will basically have vetted by UMHS folks. Who do you think Dr. Schlissel is going to listen to?
If Brandon really did squeeze the docs, my guess is that Schlissel will find out. None of this is good news for Dave Brandon. He now has the attention of a man who was clearly willing to pay little attention to Athletics.
