Barnhart To The NFL After The Season
“I’m going on to the NFL,” Barnhart said, confirming he already has a place to work out down in Florida once the Michigan season ends, either after the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl or the National Championship Game in Houston Jan. 8. “I thought about it before the season even started. I think that’s probably the best thing for me.”

Let's win two more and send him out as a national champion!!

Exactly.. 2-0 in January ‘24.

We will see what Nugent and Jones decide, but with Hinton coming back, going into the spring we are looking at:
LT: Hinton
LG: El-Hadi
C: Nugent (or Crippen, if Nugent leaves)
RG: Gentry vs. Priebe
RT: Jones (or Gentry or Persi, if Jones leaves)
That's a very solid group going into the spring, and we build from there. Plenty of young guys to battle and push these guys.
December 30th, 2023 at 4:44 PM ^
I'd be very surprised if Priebe didn't lock down the guard spot opposite El-Hadi.
December 30th, 2023 at 6:19 PM ^
Priebe made 3rd team All Big Ten both coaches and media.
Keegan and Zinter took two of the spots ahead of him.
I seriously doubt he will not lock down one of the guard spots.
December 30th, 2023 at 6:22 PM ^
Agreed. But I specifically said going into the spring. He's not going to walk into the locker room as a starter. Just like Henderson didn't.
December 31st, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
In that sense, none of them are walking into the locker room as a starter. Harbaugh and/or Moore are going to make those guys earn every bit of their starting jobs.
If we’re not going to presume an all-conference guard is a starter in spring, what have any of the others done to earn a presumed starting spot?
December 30th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
The LT spot leaves me a bit nervous. Could always use a real stud there.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
I think Hinton is a better pass blocker than run blocker so him at LT might work out ok next year.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:23 PM ^
I thought Gentry was the perfect LT body type - tall, big, athletic... I thought he was the heir-apparent next year at LT.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
I thought it was Persi wouod was next man up for that spot. That is going to be a real battle next year.
December 30th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
I agree it makes no sense to waste a 6'8", top 100 tackle at guard.
December 31st, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
Just because he’s 6’8” doesn’t mean he’s best suited to play tackle. If he’s a better guard, it’s certainly not a waste to put him there.
December 30th, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
He certainly has the versatility to play in the league, but he's probably looking at UDFA
December 30th, 2023 at 4:36 PM ^
Interesting. Best of luck to the young man. But, question. Isn’t this a bit of a surprise? I thought we were expecting him back…
December 30th, 2023 at 4:44 PM ^
Not necessarily, he has been here since 2019 and has a ton of game film in those 5 years.
He is also a guy who is unlikely to improve his stock with more play.
I always assumed whoever won the Job between Jones and Barnhart would go pro.
December 30th, 2023 at 9:15 PM ^
Late, late round draft for sure. I’m a bit shocked. Maybe a guard at best.
December 30th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
I'm ok with this move. Good luck
December 30th, 2023 at 6:43 PM ^
Glad you're okay with it. We can all exhale.
Sorry, but you sound like a little bit of an ass. Barnhart has been a huge piece of changing the culture at Michigan. He should be celebrated, anything less we can just keep to ourselves.
Beat Bama.
December 30th, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
Good thing I don't care what you think then huh?
December 30th, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Win the game. Then win out for Zak, Karsen, Blake, all Michigan seniors, Michigan nation, and America since Michigan is now America's team. Go Blue! Good luck always Karsen.
December 30th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
Congrats to Karsen!
December 30th, 2023 at 6:07 PM ^
His versatility will serve him well in his attempt to make an NFL roster.
Roster spots are limited so guys that can back up several spots get extra notice.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
Good luck to him, but it seems like this season exposed a number of deficiencies in his play that he may want another year to improve.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
You are sort of what you are at this age athletically. He has had an amazing S&C staff to work with - the quick twitch to deal with NFL DEs is not going to fall from the heavens to him with another year. Hopefully he can stand up as a pro guard and make some (moar) money for his family.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:27 PM ^
I wish him the best at the next level. After 5 years it's OK to want to move on.
December 30th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
Good luck!
December 30th, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
I’m going to throw this out there as a hypothetical lineup just for fun. Assumptions:
1. left tackle is the best combination of feet and length to protect the QBs blind side.
2. five best players start
LT: Persi or Gentry
LG: Priebe
C: Nugent
RG: Trente
RT: Hinton
Hinton started this season at RT. I’m not sold on his pass protection footwork, but as a run blocker I’ve seen him destroy guys. Like, put them on a sled and go.
Trente is one of the best 5, if he returns, but he seems miscast as a tackle. His pass protection against outside speed rushers is not elite. But the guy is 6’4”, 325, and can also just cave in a side of a defensive line. I’d like to see him next to Hinton and just let those two guys go to work.
December 30th, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
There’s a trend of Hinton playing his best ball (really good ball) at LT, going back to his Stanford days.
Trente seems fine at RT, but could be elite at RG.
There’s no way in hell El Hadi isn’t a starter next year. He was probably one of our best five THIS year.
Gentry was a RT prospect who was being buzzed about as a guard until he got back in tip-top shape and improved his movement skills. That’s not who you want to play at LT.
December 30th, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
I like the idea of Jones at RG but it seems like you forgot about El Hadi.
It is likely all of war between Hinton, Jones, and Gentry at OT.
Priebe and El Hadi at OG
Crippen v Anderson at OC (I'm assuming Nugent goes pro).

Every pro stadium needs a good turnstile
All the best KB
December 30th, 2023 at 7:46 PM ^
He seems like a player who would really benefit from one more year. His pass blocking was marginal all season.
December 30th, 2023 at 9:18 PM ^
Yep. Every play that JJ was running for his life, he was trying to catch his defender. He’s big and may blossom. I wish him the best.
December 30th, 2023 at 9:33 PM ^
The Rose Bowl is a perfect showcase for Karsen to improve his stock. I like it.
December 31st, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
Lots of talk regarding next year's line. I'm new and can't figure out how to attach screenshots. Nonetheless, I attached a link to an interview from Harbaugh's office last month. He literally has the depth chart stuck to his wall. Granted bodies may move around depending the situation ie. the Zinter injury.
Its much different than what we've heard or seen from "experts," Ourlads, forums, or even the product on the field.
Persi #2 Right Guard???
December 31st, 2023 at 2:22 PM ^
Wish him well, but glad he made this decision.
