More Ballz for 4* OH Brian Robinson & Other Crootin' Notes

In some pleasant crootin' news, Michigan Football is on the brink of a serious tear on the recruiting front for the 2024 class.

4* DE Brian Robinson (#110 ranked recruit in the 247 composite) from Youngstown, OH has received several Crystal Balls in favor of Michigan today. In addition, Robinson hinted his decision timeline could be expedited if a certain 5* QB may be making a decision soon. This sentiment seems to be the case for several other recruits on the board.

That 5* QB is obviously Jadyn Davis (#24 overall), who is visiting this weekend in what shapes up to be another huge weekend for the staff. If all goes well with meeting new QB coach Kirk Campbell, his recruitment could be wrapping up pretty soon, giving Michigan the crown jewel of the class.

Other top recruits that Michigan seems to be leading for at the moment: 4* RB Taylor Tatum (#39), 4* WR I’Marion Stewart (#301), 4* WR Channing Goodwin (#320), 4* WR Jordan Shipp (#385), 3* WR Mekhai White (#495 visited last weekend), 4* TE Brady Prieskorn (#59), 3* OT Ben Roebuck (#452), 4* OT/OG Blake Frazier (#212), 4* OT Andrew Sprague (#201) and 4* LB Aaron Chiles (#88).

Other recruits that Michigan is either leading/at the top for: 4* RB Jordan Marshall (#83), 4* RB Darrion Dupree (#356), 3* RB Harry Stewart (#494 visiting this weekend), 4* OT Kevin Haywood (#251), 4* OG Max Anderson (#182 visiting this weekend), 4* C Waltclaire Flynn (#155), 4* DE Darien Mayo (#134), 4* LB Jeremiah Beasley (#249) and 4* S Ricardo Jones (#95).

Coming off one of Harbaugh's lower rated classes in 2023, it seems like there is a trend that the staff is content with a long-term project/developmental class every 5 years, surrounded by classes with multiple high-level recruits: (2018: 22nd, 2019: 10th, 2020: 12th, 2021: 13th, 2022: 12th, 2023: 19th). Maybe its just a coincidence, maybe Michigan has started to adapt to the NIL era, or maybe their pitch is resonating with the fact they are a top 5 program in terms of winning on the field and producing NFL players. Either way, there are some serious exciting times on the horizon with under 6 months until kickoff for the 2023 season and the (currently) #5 ranked 2024 recruiting class.

What a time to be alive!!

Keep up the great work on the recruiting trail

This coaching staff could be the best of all time in the history of Michigan Football

Go Blue!!

Less (not none but much less) staff drama and chaos which gives more space to focus on the on field success has to be a big part of this.

With or without NIL news simply knowing who the HC and key assistants are going to be is a massive shift from last year.

What a lot of you crazies aren’t mentioning, is the fact that this is only during the dead season. Imagine what happens when UM is holding up the CFB trophy in ‘24!

Hopefully a sign of things to come. Michigan desperately needed to start capitalizing on its recent run of success.

One class every few years that is more catered towards developmental projects is probably okay, and to be fair to Harbaugh we've seen plenty of those recruits blossom into guys who played extremely well here and will have an opportunity to play on Sundays. But by and large if you want to win the trophies you're aiming to win, you need to have the kind of guys on your roster that Alabama, Georgia and OSU want on their roster as well. Or if you can't get that kind of depth that they have, you need to go the Clemson route of having a transcendent QB who just elevates the play of the rest of the program because he's just that good on his own.

Thanks for the thread -- it's great news -- but there's a flaw in your logic, OP, to say that staff was content with a class like 2022 every five years, as if it was an outcome they chose. I'm sure they'd prefer a more skilled collection of players every year. They just didn't get it done last year, for a number of reasons that have been hashed out here.

I agree. Like I said it’s probably a coincidence with the 5 year trend. Either way it seemed when the staff recognized they couldn’t compete with the NIL landscape and frankly didn’t have good recruiters at certain spots, they decided to pivot to more long-term projects as the 2023 cycle went on.

What's the sense here about ex-ND safety Brandyn Hillman? I know Ohio State wants him, but I read that Notre Dame writers predict he'll choose Michigan.

If we are top 5 in the portal every year that can be huge. The players we are bringing in are the equivalent to bringing in a seasoned high 4*.

There once was a ‘croot named Dupree

ranked around three hundred fifty

but if he plays in Michigan Stadium

with studs like Marshall and Tatum

he might only be RB #3
