Deuce Spurlock to Florida
Class of 2022 signee Deuce Spurlock entered the transfer portal about a week ago. He went on a visit to Florida this past weekend, and as of earlier today, he committed to the Gators.
Spurlock played in two games as a freshman and made 3 tackles against Hawaii.
Here's the LINK to his commitment tweet.

You're mad that it's Florida?

Gator poop--it's a koala bear delicacy.

Go forth and prosper, Deuce!

That's an interesting destination. He was a pretty low 3-star and while we weren't his only power 5 offer, the others were MSU (not that MSU), USC (not that USC), and Boston College. An Auburn offer may have been forthcoming if he hadn't committed to Michigan. On the other hand, I just realized Florida went 6-7 this year so maybe their roster is more worse shape than I realized.
Random other Florida note I happened across while looking up something, Colin Castleton just logged 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists (!), and 7 blocks (!!) in his last game. He would have been a nice upper-classman to have on the roster.

Castleton is the new Hummel.

That guy STILL has eligibility??
What's next, someone going to tell me that Aaron Craft has another year of eligibility lying around somewhere as well?

There's no doubt he'd be a real asset on this roster now. Good for him though.

Castleton was a big loss...

I see what you did there

SEC deucebag men

Good luck to him.

Seemed like a nice kid. I hope he succeeds.

Deuce...we hardly knew ye.

I recall not liking his HS tape. He looked a bit like McCray to me in that he seemed too thick/wide and I didn't think me moved too well. Didn't seem like a fit in today's game.
The little I saw of him here made me change my mind a bit as he looked a lot quicker and not so "90s MLB". HS tape can do that due to pads, uniforms and competition. I just didn't see enough of it apparently.
I think he can be a very fine college LB. I wish him well.

probably one of my favorite comments on here was the guy (on his "hello" post maybe) who said
"Deuce Spurlock: Male Warlock"
gold jerry gold
even better than the multiple guys that made "Messiah DeWeaver? Messiah DeCarpenter!" jokes

Interesting how so many of these players enter the portal, visit one school, and commit within a couple days, maybe a week, when it's "illegal" for schools to contact players until they're in the portal.
At least they're not tipping serving staff after some comped hamburgers though. That'd be cheating.
January 9th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
Is it illegal for players to reach out to schools?
January 9th, 2023 at 1:36 AM ^
They aren't supposed to until officially in the portal but there is even less avenue to enforce this than a staff tampering by reaching out behind the scenes.
It's all messed up right now as the middlemen and women are old friends.
If a player wants to transfer to a specific school, he only needs to have a connection to that school. An old HS teammate camp circuit friend. Hit them up and ask them to guage interest. If given a thumbs up, hit the portal and the school takes them.
This is true in reverse, too. It's why it's so hard to enforce because a lot like bagmen before NIL, you only get caught if you're dumb enough to leave a paper or digital trail.

NCAA is too busy checking burger joint receipts to care.

I get the concerns with coaches reaching out to players, but is the reverse really bad? People generally don’t quit their jobs until they have another lined up. Non athletes can apply to other schools without announcing an intention to transfer. College players have options (short of hiring an agent) to explore their pro options before deciding to go pro. If this is truly about the player, why shouldn’t they be able to make an informed decision about entering the transfer portal?

Depends on if the players stop by on their own, and someone from the staff takes them out for a burger, and the staff is stupid enough to not pay for the burger with cash.

His contribution the All-Name team will surely be missed.

It’s Florida, so I’m sure Michigan hasn’t seen the last of him.
January 9th, 2023 at 6:39 AM ^
Florida is a mess right now. I don’t think Nappier will last very long down there but it’s a great school and I wish Deuce the best of luck.
January 9th, 2023 at 7:09 AM ^
Optimistically this says something good about Michigan's current LB group. Florida isn't in great shape at the moment but their roster is still at least middle-of-the-road SEC.
January 9th, 2023 at 8:54 AM ^
Not it’s not. Their roster is shit. Napier pretty much did a complete turnover this offseason
January 9th, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
He must have been an underrated recruit to be around 1000 in the composite but get shots at both Michigan and Florida.
January 9th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
Florida is spending a fortune to try to be good again.
January 9th, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
Good for him. Wish the best for him.
Figured he'd land in a good spot. We are going to see more "lower ranked" Freshmans just go to the biggest school or pay day, show they can play at the FBS and take off for greener pastures. We just got one in the kid from Nebraska

The Deuce is loose.
