Transfer Portal Day - Open Thread
Where will Hudson Card go? Is ND guaranteed to target a QB to start next year? Whom will Graham Mertz get fired next?
Let the wild speculation begin!
December 5th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
I hear Cade may go to Iowa?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
He had to wait until today to announce, right? Since the portal opens today. And since he was captain of the team playing in the conference championship Saturday?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
I think since he's a grad transfer he did not have to wait
December 5th, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
would have been foolish not to hang around long enough to get another B1G Championship ring, hat and T shirt!
December 5th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
I'm guessing that he'd be eligible for all honors associated with team achievements this year, right?
December 5th, 2022 at 11:21 AM ^
Those who stay!
December 5th, 2022 at 11:33 AM ^
He had to get a head start on learning the rich and complex Brian Ferentz playbook
December 5th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
Cade will start slow next year because he's going to need to spend the next 9 months teaching Brian Ferenz how to play Offense.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Cade wouldn’t go to Iowa and their offense unless he knew he’d have a big tight end with great hands that he can target.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
He had problems with the software they were using to scan the original crayon into iPad-compatible format.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
He's already done.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
Direct hit! I’m sorry (not sorry), but this is spot on. Not the best of looks, when the right thing to do was also the easy way to do it. (Magnum’s comment, to be clear)
December 5th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
Thread worthy imo.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:12 PM ^
Stover?
December 5th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
He's already done that 3 times.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
I’ll take a couple of Stanford Cardinal players for $200 Alex.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
Is that the NIL needed for guys from Stanford? I mean, that sounds right. At least plausible.

https://247sports.com/Player/Stephen-Herron-Jr-94130/
Herron and Hinton would be good pickups
December 5th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
Are the 100% crystal balls to Michigan from Hinton’s HS days or the portal?
December 5th, 2022 at 11:32 AM ^
They were from 2017 and 2018.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:43 AM ^
Thanks, I missed that.
so the 100% to Michigan was 100% wrong
December 5th, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
High school recruiting
December 5th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
I have no idea why (getting old) but I barely remember Chris Hinton playing last year.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
All the smoke was going to Hutch and Ojabo. That being said you didnt see much from the DL like this year. You have Mazi, Graham, Jenkins and hell even Benny showing up and making big plays.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Ohio State game 2021 he flushed Stroud to Hutch. I think on this years team he would stand out more without the dominating ends.
December 5th, 2022 at 1:48 PM ^
Looks like hes on the Chargers practice squad.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
Good idea for an open thread. One site has reported Braelon Allen is in the portal but I don’t know if it’s been confirmed.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
Good look!
Where did you read the Erik All info?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:35 AM ^
I'm seeing it in a bunch of rumblings and that he's also going to Iowa with Cade.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Think that maybe means Schoon comes back for his Covid year at 25 next season?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:41 AM ^
He has already accepted a senior bowl invite.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
Ahh didn’t see that one. I knew Ronnie and Hayes did.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
Is accepting a senior bowl invite binding?
It's obviously telling of their mindset when they accepted, just wondering if there is anything involved in accepting that would make them ineligible if they changed their minds.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Is accepting a senior bowl invite binding?
lol I highly doubt that it is legally binding of any nature.
NCAA: "Well, the player says he wants to go back to school for one more year, but the Senior Bowl has a text where he says "bet" to their invite."
Ha.
That said, you're right... what it is is representative of where their mind is regarding returning to school. But The only things that would be "binding" persay would be things like signing with an agent, which would be defacto-binding due to eligibility rules. Or formally entering the draft, etc.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
I just got busted at work laughing out loud at "bet."
My coworkers are getting very tired of my forced football discussions and they are placing me in the portal this afternoon.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
Seeing the same. If it happens, wonder how long this has been in the works or if Loveland's emergence the past few weeks played a big role
December 5th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
M has also been conservative with back/spinal injuries (See: Ondre Pipkins) and may have said he'd need to take a medical vs. getting a second opinion.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:29 AM ^
Didn't something similar happen with St. Juste?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
I can't believe it has anything to do with Loveland. If the rumors are true, we would be losing All, Schoon, and Honigford. That is a lot of production to replace. We have Loveland and Bredeson returning but we will need one or more of Hibner, Hansen, or Klein to emerge or maybe grab one in the portal.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:49 AM ^
Yeah I don't really get it. Was hoping to have All and Loveland fully operational in 2023
December 5th, 2022 at 1:38 PM ^
Michigan always heavily uses 2-3 tight ends. So it doesn't make sense.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
Why would All transfer?
December 5th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
To be the #1 downfield threat for McNamara. Iowa knows how to use TEs, WRs not so much.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:07 AM ^
But we just won back-to-back Big Ten championships, and he was our leading receiver last season
December 5th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
He’ll catch a lot more balls at Iowa. Less competition. Cade will be looking for him. Better for the draft.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
#1 in one of the worst offenses in college football, who also might be getting a new OC. He might have to share some reps here, but I can't imagine he wouldn't get enough to show out for the NFL.
December 5th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Iowa knows how to use TEs
And Michigan does not? I mean, TEs are a feature in Michigan's offense.
I know you specifically are not calling out Michigan by saying this. It's more of a counterpoint if someone uses that as a reason to transfer.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
No real rea$on.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
I'm not saying he won't--I don't have insider information--but it would surprise me if he did, based on a conversation I had with him this past summer during their Michigan tour, as well as Harbaugh's obvious affection for him. The two of them have a very good relationship, so if he leaves then there are probably some extenuating circumstances.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:48 AM ^
An Edwards/Allen combo with Stokes getting more seasoning? Acceptable!
