[LOCKED] Jim Harbaugh spoke at a Pro-Life fundraiser
Link below covering the story. Yeah yeah no politics, but like, it's an elephant in the room.

EDIT - This thread is going to produce nothing but grief, I would think. For the record, I am adamantly pro-choice, even a regular contributor to Planned Parenthood, but much in the same way you don't care about that, neither are we going to officially care (by "officially", I mean on this blog - privately, hammer away as always) about Jim's stance, which should probably not shock anyone given his professed faith - LSA

That said, I do wish active coaches would stay out of politics. One way or the other you always piss off part of the fanbase

Definitely an instalock.
IIRC he's Catholic and shouldn't surprise anyone.
And if that has the slightest impact on anyone's college football rooting interests, well, we're just doomed.

IDGAF if he is Catholic. This is not going to go over well with a LOT of people. And it matters.

Take a deep breath. It's ok to support either side of an issue. Abortion, gun control, death penalty, etc. His opinion is as valid as yours. Settle it in the voting booth.

I don't think he's been vocal about it before. Probably not a good look considering the recent climate, the organization's involvement in partisan politics, and the fact that he's the most public face of the state's flagship university.

He's entitled to his opinion (though I ultimately disagree, saying the unborn have potential for life is a morally rigorous position). Would be surprised if 75% of football coaches didn't agree. Who care.

Let the guy freely practice his religion. There's even some intimation in the Constitution that doing so is okay.

I did not realize that college football fans constituted Congress.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I saw this maybe a day or two ago. I was waiting to see if anyone would take the bait and post it here (because I certainly wasn't)

It matters. He will have to be accountable for his opinions whether some of you like it or not.

So what. He's a great coach, our coach, entitled to his beliefs and you're probably just trying to stir the pot of controversy on a slow day.

If this site, and your Michigan fandom, truly is "no politics", then there's no elephant in the room at all. Just keep them separate. Harbaugh can have political activity separate from his job, just like you can.

It's different when you're the public face. Right or wrong, that's just the truth of it. It's a lot different than being some middle level manager who know no one knows or sees.

You mean he expressed his right of free speech and spoke for something he believed in? No way!
Folks can have differing opinions on subjects and still be good people/get along with others who have different viewpoints. I don’t understand why this concept is so hard to grasp in 2022.
If the whole country all cheered for the same team, it’d be pretty boring.

Lol been waiting for this to appear on the blog. Harbaugh is currently #2 trend in the US.
Found out why and immediately thought how quickly will this be posted.
Surprisingly it took much longer than I thought.
I dont have an opinion on the matter one way or the other, but Jim sure is having quite the offseason.

"In God’s plan, each unborn human truly has a future filled with potential, talent, dreams and love," Harbaugh said. "I have living proof in my family, my children, and the many thousands that I’ve coached that the unborn are amazing gifts from God to make this world a better place. To me, the right choice is to have the courage to let the unborn be born."
It sounds like Jim believes everyone deserves a shot to see what they can become which basically sounds like he is applying his idea of a meritocracy to all of life so I don't believe this should surprise anyone who has followed Michigan football during Jim's tenure.

Double post so let me also say no one should be surprised by Jim Harbaugh speaking out for what he believes in. The article has a good summary of all the things he has taken a public stance on in the last few years and it is not a short list nor one that is low on controversial issues.

I'm not one to say "shut up and dribble" at all, but this is a case where he should have side-stepped the topic instead of taking a wildly unpopular position on a topic that he shouldn't have a say in.
At best, he could have said "I am pro-life personally, we understand and respect the right for women to choose" instead of making such a decision to keep or not keep a fetus a matter of 'courage'
