Softball Sunday: U-M vs TBD @ 11:30 on ESPN+
Winner vs UCF scheduled for 2.
Michigan has three outs to get six runs. Going to be tough sledding as their workhorse pitcher appears to still have her stuff. Beabien gave up one run in 1.2 innings of relief so she gets some redemption to at least give her team a chance.
It surely wasn't the season that Meghan Beaubien would've liked for her final season at Michigan (finishing 8-7 in her worst season for the Wolverines), but with a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, like all those former college athletes who were All-Americans at one time in their chosen sports, she'll be "going pro" in something other than athletics and I have a feeling that she'll be fine. Michigan gets one run in the seventh and threatens a little but ultimately it’s not enough.
9-4 UCF.
Thanks for fighting this weekend and of course all season. Only watched a bit this weekend but they definitely fought hard.
An interesting season. Loads of senior talent, but Michigan hasn't won a regional in six years after having won 12 in the previous 13 seasons. But they did amass a 222-72 record over that time and always play the best opponents they can in the early spring. I'm sorry the seniors didn't get a chance to play a Super-regional and reach the CWS. Just a matter of a couple of at bats here and there, it always seems.
The team will look very different next year, with Widra and Derkowski the leaders on the mound, with at least one of the freshmen coming in expected to supply a lot of innings.
Doesn't Storako still have the Covid year if she wants to use it? Same with Carson and Blair.
Clarifying question, Maddie Erickson to supply a lot of innings or are we saying the current freshmen expected to supply a lot of innings? Just a little confused because I didn't know of any other incoming girls who pitch.
I was thinking Erickson, though it seems she might play 1b/3b as well. I don't know if Aiken will get another shot - she pitched in only one game this season, but was a big recruit for them. Hopefully, there was a good reason she didn't play and she'll be part of the mix.
As for Storako, Carson and Blair, who have eligibility remaining because of COVID, I don't have any specific knowledge. Last year, they announced they were honoring Beaubien and Bump on Senior Day and both returned.
It was always interesting they had three highly rated pitchers in the class of 21', with the highest rated one being Annabelle who was the only one who could play in the field. Was always a good chance that one was going to go by the wayside. For the two cents it's worth, Emerson's travel team tweeted her "Tough season, but I know your fight! Time to start getting back to 100%." So maybe there's a chance she had a nagging injury.. Or it could just mean they don't think she was doing what she's capable. Who knows, but hoping we hear from her again.
Hope some freshmen can contribute next season, or it will be a similar outcome to this year.
